this is the one area we always get mixed results with in our shop. we dont sell quiet life as they dont seem to work for a lot of people.
kordels quiet time and Bioforce valerian-hops are the two we get the best feedback from, for sleeping problems.
Solgar rhodiola and Bioforce passiflora with avena sative and Bioforce valerian are the 3 we get the reports back from, for stress or anxiety/worry.

what were you going to take them for?

Gloworm · 30/03/2006 10:50

and are you on sleeping tablets, anti-depressants or tranquilisers from GP? if you are, you cant use the herbal ones at the same time.

zippitippitoes · 30/03/2006 10:53

I am having problems sleeping and stressed/hyper..lots going on at the moment and I am worried that I might be risking getting a bit ill.

tried then and didn't work for me but I can get to be such a stress ball that even strong sleeping tablets don't work, I just get so wired! Like you, I'm worried about my health, esp with baby, so I've booked myself in for some acupuncture. maybe you could try this too? Also heard hynotherapy is good for insomnia but not tried it. HTH

Gloworm · 30/03/2006 11:00

i would go for the Solgar rhodiola then. thake it 3 times a day until you start to feel the benefits, then take 2 a day. if money not an issue then stay on 3 a day as long as you like. no problems of side effects with it.

Solgar VM75 or V2000(even better) are really good vitamins which might help with stress/energy levels/and general well being. we use them all the time and swear by them.
in a totally different league from the likes of sanatogen/pharmaton etc.

you can get them online or in a good health shop, dont think H&B sell Solgar.

Thank you that's interesting, the only thing that i wondered is that is this kind of thing ever contra indicated for any thing like bipolar?

Gloworm - can you reccomend anything for depression/mood swings? (sorry for hijack!)

Gloworm · 30/03/2006 11:20

schneebly · 30/03/2006 11:22

thanks - see you later! lol.

zippitippitoes · 30/03/2006 11:23

Thank you again, gloworm..how frustrating for you..

Hi schneebly..what a weird name (not like mine lol)It's a pita having these things isn't it?

OP posts:
schneebly · 30/03/2006 11:30

hey zippi! yes a PITA! Have you seen 'school of rock'? My name kind of came from that via being a pet name for ds2! Grin

Gloworm · 30/03/2006 11:46

i'm back, have hung up the washing and cant be assed with any other housework this morning!

here goes, the abbreviated version Wink

zippi...it would be contraindicated if you are on medication for it, really you need to ask your GP and thats goes into territory I not allowed to advise on. catch 22 though as gp wont have heard of rhodiola probably.
do you have a medical herbalist in your area? thay straddle the medical and herbal worlds and could give more advice.

sneb...rholiola great for depression too.
and fish oil.
and st. johns wort (it seems to get mixed reports, though I dont know much about it as its banned here in ireland).
mood swings...depends on reason for them . for example if they are pmt related take agnus castus (not if u on pill/mirena/hrt)

its much better to dicuss this face to face though, and tailor the remedy given depending on your diet/lifestyle/exact problem.
do you have a good health shop with good qualified staff with ethics/morals and not just out to sell you something?
Yous aren't coming to donegal in the bear future Grin

Gloworm · 30/03/2006 11:48

*near future

not bear

zippitippitoes · 30/03/2006 11:52

I don't take any medication, had a disastrous set of experiences as a result of taking ads and haven't taken any medication since the whole thing which is about 6 and half years since.

Don't fancy the gp..I appreciate you can't advise. There is something called Dr Herbs round the corner but looks a bit quackish to me?

schneebly · 30/03/2006 11:53

Thanks Gloworm - lol at bear future! I live near Ireland - nearest point in mull of kintyre only 11 miles from ireland. We do have a pretty good health food shop locally so maybe try there for the rhodiola - am already taking fish oil.

Gloworm · 30/03/2006 12:01

zippi, you could phone solgar. some of my customers have got fantastic advice from them.

have a look at their website \link{http://www.solgar.co.uk\here}
if the phone number isn't here let me know and I can get it for you.

that is a really useful link, a lot of information to analyse on there! Good to know where to find reputable stuff as there is such a lot of potentially misinformation about!
