Has anyone had a blood test to check for immunity prior to a second round of single jabs for MMR?

Don't want to start another controversial thread on this topic but I'm interested to hear if anyone else has done this. My twin DDs (just 5) had single measles and rubella jabs when they were 2. Their mumps jab was cancelled a few times due to supply problems and I haven't rearranged, believing it to be the least problematic of the 3 illnesses. However, I understand that now they are 5 their boosters are due and I'm thinking of getting them tested to see if it is necessary.

Thanks for any info.

Interesting. I've just been looking at the Direct Health 2000 website (the clinic where I had the jabs done) and there is a Q&A part. One of the questions is:

How effective are single vaccines?

After a single dose (ie before booster)
measles is 98.7% effective
mumps is 98% effective
rubella is 97% effective

So what exactly is the point of putting them through a booster?

The direct remedies clinic in Sunbury offers immunity testing. I would expect other clinics wouldoffer it as well.

I'm considering the immunity test as well. I'm also thinking about the combined booster on the basis that she already has the diseases in her. I'll probably decide against the combined mmr booster though.

I'm also considering just the measels booster.

I obviously am a way off of the decison. Blush But then she only just turned 3 so I've got a while to ponder it.

Do you think it's necessary to have a booster just for that odd 2-3% Uwila?

if it's a proper blood test (i.e. rather than pricking a finger or whatever) then I'd be inclined just to have the injection (if you have no anti mmr sentiment).

Poor dd has had to have several blood tests for health reasons and I really wouldn't subject a small child to them unless you really have to.

I think that maybe it's worth it for measels, but I'm not sure about mumps and rubella. Also, funds are very tight in my house. So, I must admit I'm pondering the cost of the mumps and rubella and thinking hmmm does she really need this?

She has had all of the singles. So I'm not thinking about not giving mumps and rubella at all, just wondering is that booster 2% extra protection worth the cost, risk, time, pain, etc.

Exactly. I'm quite stunned that the first single jabs are so effective. They don't exactly advertise the fact do they? Funds are also tight in our house and a round of second jabs for two of them will cost £760!!

Yeah, and I have to pay the round of the first ones for DS soon (he is 10 months now). He is definately not having the combined jab.

So, I suppose if I had the immunity test I might find out she is fine and then I could save a few hundred quid. Hmmmm... that sounds an attractive option.
