I had never thought of the lolly idea. Thankyou so much chapsmum, I will go to the chemist when dh gets home and get the meltlets. I think i will try that first if needed. You can't ever get a break chapsmum, you are always giving such good advice to us mums. Smile. I must admit I was looking for any recent threads that you were on last night, I dont know what 39.5 equates to, I think 40=104 is that right/ Blush

Aww thanks, its really no problem
39.5 is 103.1.

For the record Febrile convulsions are cuased by sudden increase in temp not just a high temp which is why regular antipuretics are so important. Though by the age of seven his body is much better and cooling the brain, hense the shivering. this is why febrile convulsions are much less likely to occur after the age of two.
Hope he is on the mend!!

Squarer · 29/03/2006 18:49

What are antipuretics Chapsmum? I googled it but got little I understood!!

(How is DS ME???)

Chapsmum · 29/03/2006 19:10

a perexia is a temperature above normal. anti pyruretics prevent and bring down a high temp

Chapsmum · 29/03/2006 19:27

pyrexia, sorry and the most commonly used antipyuretics would be paracetamol and ibuprofen

mixedemotions123 · 29/03/2006 19:40

Thanks chapsmum, I took your advice and brought the meltlets, at the moment he is arguing with his little brother Grin. Chances are it will go up again before too long as the calpol will be wearing off.
squarer, I didn't have a clue what it meant either, its a good job mumsnet has its own online proffessionals that can give us sound medical advice and info.
Sorry chapsmum but i think you are great Grin.

Fab (just remeber to half them, and still leave 8 hours in between.) If he still pukes would definatly go back the three month formula and the lolly pops.

Good luck, and it really is no problem, am glad I can help

xx

joanna4 · 29/03/2006 21:20

I have used those kool n soothe sheets in the past i find them really useful.

Squarer · 29/03/2006 21:34

That explains the every 3 hour dosing I was instructed to give my son then Chapsmum Smile (He was spiking his massively high temperatures)

Piffle · 29/03/2006 21:40

We got dds dosages revised by a paediatrician, they used weight.
So 5mls went up to 7.5 mls for calpol and ibuprofen went up as well.
The temp is under control now but she had it from friday 12pm til This morning at over 39 deg.
Tonight shes still 38.4 but calm and improving.
I am glad you are able to get some ibuprofen into your ds as well ME123. Hope he improves overnight.

Chapsmum · 29/03/2006 21:54

The best way to work out the dose is by weight piffle, glad things are improving slowly, hope they continue that way.
pracetamol : 20 mg per kg
ibuprofen 30mg per kg divided into 3-4 doses.
IME if you have problems controlling a temp despite nurofen and calpol there is usally an underlying infection that need attention

ShaysMummy · 29/03/2006 22:07

if it was my boy and i couldnt get his temp down i would get him checked out.
as rickman said, it could be something nasty.

Squarer · 29/03/2006 22:29

That is incredibly useful Chapsmum - thank you.

mixedemotions123 · 30/03/2006 07:59

piffle, I hope your dd is on the mend. Ds1 seems alot better today, got up and went straight on his playstation.Shock. He has got the runs which is probably due to all of the calpol. Ds2 was crabby last night, and not quite himself this morning. Its driving me bonkers at the minute, dh had the "man flu" all last week too. Bet your life i will be the last one to get it. Thing is then they will all forget how rough they felt, and it will be the usual "get on with it, you can't feel as bad as all that".Grin

lol ME123 - glad he seems to be feeling better Smile

Chapsmum · 30/03/2006 10:17

Ahh man flu, it is half as serious as women flu and they moan twice as much im professional opinion Grin.
Glad things are on the mend and its no problem squarer

mixedemotions123 · 30/03/2006 18:52

You are not wrong there. Ds2 has got temp of 100now and clear fluid diarreoh. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH. God i am so fed up with these bloody viruses AngrySmile Blush

OP posts:
Chapsmum · 30/03/2006 19:43

oh, I know. You are left wondering will it all end????
plenty clear fluid and dioralyte to drink.
Glad his temp has come down, its so horrid when they are hot and not well, my mind just races

mixedemotions123 · 31/03/2006 07:38

hi chapsmum, ds1 seems 100x better, still has the cough, but ds2 temp was 104 in the night. Gone down a bit this morning thank god. Where abouts do you live if you don't mind me asking?.

Chapsmum · 31/03/2006 09:09

North of the border in sunny scotland!
Near Glasgow

Chapsmum · 31/03/2006 09:09

and sanatogen vitomens are fab for coughs that wont go away!

Polgara2 · 31/03/2006 09:10

Oh Chapsmum thats interesting - just the multi vitamins do you mean?

Chapsmum · 31/03/2006 09:11

yip, they are bascially just glycerol (childrens cough medicine) with added vitamins.
This the vits do more good than the syrup though. It cleared the wee chaps cough up in no time. Apparently bbots have and own brand which is a bit cheaper.

mixedemotions123 · 31/03/2006 14:21

shame you live so far away, we are in southampton area. Bit far for a cuppa!Grin
