don't think its the obvious place to look .. hair / saliva / blood

why are you asking?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 28/03/2006 18:04

think you can extract DNA from anything that comes from the human body.....

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 18:04

although the answer is Yes you can get a dna profile from a urine sample

NomDePlume · 28/03/2006 18:05

Don't think so. DNA swabs are usually taken from inside the cheek (a very little scraping with a cotton bud type thing).

NomDePlume · 28/03/2006 18:06

oh, I stand corrected. Bit of a funny first post ....

tamum · 28/03/2006 18:07

If there are cells in there, yes. Won't be much though.

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 18:09

wha' do you know tamum .. you're just a plumber Grin

tamum · 28/03/2006 18:11

I like to pretend though Twiglett, indulge me :o

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 18:12

Grin .. how come I've missed bumping posts with you for a while .. I like bumping posts with yhou

normanprice · 28/03/2006 18:13

I ask because my erm friend has to have a health check at her new job and has to give a sample. She is very against letting anyone having any of her DNA as a lot can be deduced from this. It is nothing to do with the recreational greenery that might show up. Grin

what has she got to hide??? curiouser and curiouser .. don't understand that

is she a russian spy?

tamum · 28/03/2006 18:15

Me too Twiglett :)

Erm, I think the chances of anyone being desperate enough to try and get enough DNA out of her urine for unspecified purposes are pretty slim, and would break any kind of ethical guidelines, so she should rest easy.

tamum · 28/03/2006 18:16

Why thank you

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 28/03/2006 18:16

ahh but has she studied at the Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna??? A girl I went to school with (it was a tiny school so you knew everyone very well) is doing her PhD there now (and she was turned down by Cambridge for her Undergraduate) - so nuuuuuuuh

tamum · 28/03/2006 18:17

I haven't, but dh was one of the founders of it.

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 18:18

Tamum could take 'er Smile

normanprice · 28/03/2006 18:18

Do I have to spell it out to you ?? Wink

tamum · 28/03/2006 18:19

I'm afraid you do rather, normanprice- what on earth does she think they will be looking for in her DNA?

HappyMumof2 · 28/03/2006 18:19

why would they normanprice? seems a bit paranoid to me.......

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 18:20

yes you do .. c'mon norman spell it out

recreational greenery wouldn't show up in DNA .. but would in a urine test I'm sure

so is it drug screening you .. ahem she .. is scared of .. or actual DNA profiling

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 28/03/2006 18:20

ooo - really Tamum - I'm impressed (she was too clever for her own good actually - left school with 5 A's at A levels, 10 A's at Scottish Highers and I think it was either 5 or 6 A'a at CSYS - including such bizarre topics are Modern Greek, all the sciences, French and German - and on top of that we were at a specialist music school so she was a fabulous violinst.

I believe her dad was quite brainy too though.......

NomDePlume · 28/03/2006 18:21

she sounds like a bit of a paranoid youknowwhat, unless she was a 'he' at some point and is scared that they'll find out ?

normanprice · 28/03/2006 18:21

I think the possibility of looking at her DNA is a cover story for not giving a sample due to other substances possibly being present

NomDePlume · 28/03/2006 18:22

How bizarre
