I should be getting mine fitted in the next few weeks. I was told that if i got no side effects on mini-pill i'd be ok on implant, but all the stories i've read on MN sound horrible. I'm bf'ing 4mth ds and doc at family planning said if my periods hadn't come back they probably wouldn't while i had it in , but now i'm getting scared, so please reassure me that it is ok for most people

i didn't get it while no-periods-because-of-breastfeeding, got it after my periods came back (but was/am still breastfeeding). It's been ok; took a while for periods to settle down. What "horror" stories have you heard? I think your doc's advice is right, if that helps.

I had it twice, it was fantastic both times. Have been sterilized now but otherwise would have gone for that over other forms of contraception if i needed to.

Thanks zebrabra amd puddytats. Doctors had told me it was a good metho of contraception but there's a few threads on here about periods that never stop and severe headaches/migraines and most people who have posted on MN seem to have had theirs removed after 6mths - a year, so just needed some people with experience to set my mind at ease. I was on one of the latest thread about Implanon. And my experience couldn't be better. I am so glad to have had the implant ( 6 months ago now). No side effects, still no periodSmile. So don't worry and think positive!!!

i will have had mine a year and a half now.
i have found it great. i will say i did get head aches for the first 3-4 months but they are gone now, my periods have always been erratic anyway, so im not sure if its made any difference to them!
i would recommend trying it.

I've had mine about 5 months now. Insertion was fine - bruising was a bit painful for a few days if I tried to lift anything heavy - like a baby! I was having v. heavy periods (soaking super size tampon in half an hour heavy) and evenin the first month my period was a lot lighter. They did go a bit haywire for a few months - light bleeding but lasting 10 days, then only a weeks break before starting again, but in the last month seem to have settled down to my pre-kids normality of 4-5 days of moderately heavy bleeding. No side effects - in fact my normal pre-menstrual digestive problems and cholestasis have lessened.
