The itchiness spreads right up into the inside of my ears and the back of my throat is all puffy.
I've had an anthisistimane but no change, also booked a doctors appointment for tomorrow but in the mean time wondered if anyone had any knowledge of this. tia.

allergic reaction is what it sounds like
what did you eat?

fairyfly · 28/03/2006 12:59

It's been progressively getting worse over the weeks so i cant really remember. It keeps me awake at night and the next day it's worse. The last think i remember eating when it started ( i could very well be wrong) is raw baby sweetcorn and mange tout. I stopped eating them as they niggled me.

I'm starting to think they were full of chemicals.

did you wash them? might well be the chemicals

that itchiness is a nightmare

have you gargled with salt water (that sometimes helps)?

bundle · 28/03/2006 13:05

fairyfly, here's a link to a programme on \link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/checkup_20060309.shtml\oral medicine}, I seem to remember the expert saying something about scrubbing tongue with vinegar for something...

Feistybird · 28/03/2006 13:05

oral thrush?

fairyfly · 28/03/2006 13:06

Gargled saltwater loads. It helps but nothing at all is curing it. I've even gone to taking ibrobrofen everyday, for 30 minutes without discomfort.

Suppose i will just have to wait and see, mt patience is going now, i remember waking up last night and screaming while banging my head on the pillow as it is annoying the crap out of me now, Thanks for your help.

there is something called Burning Mouth Syndrome..but it's usually in much older women.

Feistybird · 28/03/2006 13:09

What are the symptoms of oral thrush?

White, cream-coloured, or yellow spots in the mouth. The spots are slightly raised. There is normally no pain in the area underneath the spots. If you scrape off these spots, they leave small wounds that bleed slightly.

In adults, thrush can cause an uncomfortable burning sensation in the mouth and throat.

anorak · 28/03/2006 13:09

fairyfly it really does sound like oral thrush to me.

Try not to worry as your doc will be able to treat it.

Whatever you are prescribed I would also go to a health food shop and get a big bottle of acidophilus capsules and take those every day to get it out of your system and prevent it coming back.

Feistybird · 28/03/2006 13:10

that was off a health website btw

harpsichordcarrier · 28/03/2006 13:11

I would also recommend taking vit B and zinc. I found that helps with rubbish mouths.
it might be that you had something that set off an allergic reaction, and now your mouth is particularly sensitive and prone to breaking out.
this happens to me a lot.

bundle · 28/03/2006 13:12

i think the vinegar might have been for thrush...

yes it was:
"And so what you can do is get a very, very soft tooth brush and dilute vinegar and just use that to brush your tooth - your tongue night and morning."

fairyfly · 28/03/2006 13:14

I thought if it was thrush you would see yellow or white or a coated tongue?

If thats not the case then maybe so.

OP posts:

not necessarily. have a look at teh transcript of the radio programme..the specialist reckons you should insist on an urgent referral to an oral surgeon if you are worried or symptoms persist for 3 or 4 weeks.

anorak · 28/03/2006 13:17

You may not see the coated tongue. Especially if you are swishing salt water round your mouth all the time to relieve it.

In the meantime you could get some activia yogurt and eat it very slowly, holding it in the mouth for a while. That might relieve it a bit till you get to the doctor.

Thankyou all for your help. I'm off to bed x
