About 4 months ago my son got fitted with a cranial helmet to correct his severly flat head on one side. B4 the treatment i mentioned to the consultatnt about a wobbly lump at the bottom of his occipital bone, and she said nothing to worry about it's a lymph node, sometimes soem are more raised etc.

Anyway, now treatment has finished and all is well until i noticed that the lump has got bigger and i've found another 2 lumps lower down on his neck, all are wobbly and don't seem to bother him when i touch them. Just to be on the safe side i took him to our GP, who barely looked at them and said they are just glands raised as he's had chickenpox. But didn't explain to me why one had got bigger.

Dont' have too much faith in my doctors, so i might get a second opionion, does anyone else have any experience of these lumps?

I have no exp. of this, but after being fobbed off with "oh his hair will grow over his(DS's) mishappen head, don't worry" For it to actually turn out to be cranisyntosis, I'm glad that I kept going back and asking whats wwrong with my DS? (It was so important we got all the way to the brain surgeon at Great Ormond Street.)
Chances are, your DS will be fine, but I would always go with my mummy instinct everytime. Go and ask again, a different doctor if possible

Thanks mumatuks i'll take him back in a few wks i think. We were also fobbed off about ds head shape, eventually when we went for the scan we were told that the shape was at the top end of being severe and the difference is volume in either side of his head was really big.

Did you get treatment for you ds?

Hi MyerMay,
Thankfully, DS's craniosyntosis is only a single suture, had it been two sutures that had fused, he could have ended up with his brain growth being restricted. However it didn't solvce the problems of him from 1yr old, being a late talker, a head banger and many other things. We have had treatment in the form of cranial osteopathy, and whilst his head shape will never change, he is now tlkaing and no longer suffering a constant headache!
It really bugs me that you get these people in young child care that no nothing about it and yet we trust them and go to them for advice! I know they can't be trained in everything, but as I suspect in both our cases, there was quite obviously something wrong, even to the untrained eye!
I'm glad they could help your DS with his head shape, unfortunately DS would have to have surgery, his skull removed and re shapen to be round then put back on. I just can't put him through that (he is 2) I just hope he understands when he is older.
Good luck with going back in a few weeks. Might be worth measuring them now, and then just before you go, then you will know if they've grown or shrunk. I'm sure you'll be fine, but don't rest unitl your happy!

god, that sounds horrendous what you would of had to do in order for your ds's head to be sorted - i don't blame you for not going ahead with it, far to invasive and tramatic for you and of course him. Thanks for replying, i'll go back to the doctors in a few weeks if i'm still worried. I'm sure your son will understand and good luck with everything.

i would def ask another doctor to look at your ds, but try not to worry, i have very raised glands on one side of my neck(right) and now my ds and dd both have it too!

my son who is 8 has had raised pea sized glands since birth on the back of his neck, nothing to worry about although at first i did....bless him...he is fine though and they do get bigger if he is ill xx
