two year old with yellow build up on teeth

ds1 has yellow build up on his four bottom teeth - no amount of brushing gets rid on it. Dentist will not do anything about it.

This also happened when he was under one and a very nice dentist managed to scrape it off while he was sleeping - now he will not open his mouth for anyone. She said it was something he would be prone to. He only drinks water and milk - maybe too much milk - I think it has pooled and calcified. Anyone had similar? I am worried for his teeth and gums!

He hasn't had antibiotics recently has he (although it sounds like its been going on for a while), ds2 had this and it was antibs. If he sleeps soundly perhaps you could try giving a good brush one night and seeing if it makes any difference.

No he has not been on antibiotics. No brushing will get it off. i am trying to get him referred to a special clinic but i think sedating him will be the only option and I can't see them doing that to a two year old?

Cathcat, waht part of the country do you live in. in Scotland we have been advised to use adult toothpast (or childrens that contain over 1000 ppm fluride) because our water isnt fluradated.

ooh this is interesting, i was appalled with myself yesterday when i noticed yellow staining on ds top front teeth but he has just had a two week course of antibiotics, could this be responsible?

the other thing is sonic toothbrushes, they are absolutely fab for removing plaque. You can but a desposible one for around £5 and they work so well.

Chapsmum I am in Scotland too and I didn't know that about using adult toothpaste. We have got him an electric toothbrush but not making much difference to removing it, but might help keep it off if we ever get it removed.

the sonic ones are soooo much better than the electric ones. I know they sound the same but the sonic one uses sonic waves to break up plaque, has made such a difference to my teeth!!
