Talk to me about glucose intolerance tests and diabetes...

Littlemisspoorly · 15/10/2012 19:46

I'm off for a glucose intolerence test next week. I'm not pregnant. Some close family members have diabetes and I may have it.

How much does diabetes change your life?
Is it difficult to stick to a limited diet?

You'll probably get more on this if you ask for it to be moved to General Health. If you are diabetic you will have to learn a whole new way of eating/living but it's just a matter of getting used to the new rules. Good luck.

Thanks MadgeHarvey. Don't know how to move thread...do I retype it?

It's not a limited diet. It's a limited quantity of some foods and that doesn't even have to be forever.

I've been Type 2 for nearly 10 years and for about 7 of those years had it so under control, with just diet and exercise, that my doctors told me I wasn't really diabetic any more.

Then I had my son and put all the weight back on and now I'm losing the weight again and expect to be back at that point by next summer.

I am assuming Type 2, I don't really know anything about Type 1 except that it isn't a limited diet either. That's a common misconception.

tedhutchinson may I ask about your interest in this? Are you medically qualified or following this specialist diet?

Footle may I ask you position?

Thanks for posting that ted - it makes for very compelling reading. I've had to change my food lifestyle for a couple of reasons and I found your links very interesting indeed.

Littlemisspoorly · 16/10/2012 22:48

Thank you for your explanations ted. I shall be reading the information with great interest.

The quantity of fat worries me as I have reflux and fats/rich food make my reflux worse. Sad

That's helped immensly Footle. Thank you soooooo much. I had my test today and get the results towards next week. I'm crossing my fingers I'm staving diabetes off but if I'm honest I don't think I am. I ate so much chocolate during the last week thinking I couldn't eat it in the quantities I'm used to...it was like my last supper!
