ds has just got to the "in big boy pants most of the time" stage of potty training and he has developped loads of big spots on his bottom. He is either in briefs and dry or he is in a pull up (if we are out somewhere for a long time) and dry, or he is running around with a bear bottom. What I mean is, he isn't sitting stewing in wee. IMy question is, does anyone have any advice as to getting rid of them, preventing them or treating them. They look like teenage plukes and they hurt him. His anus is tender too.

I would have thought tea tree would be good as long as the skin isn't broken or what about a good nappy rash cram I found Vasogen was amazing and used to heal up ds's bum in a matter of hours.
??

Cadbury · 26/03/2006 18:47

some of the spots have popped but I'll try some nappy cream - think I've only got sudocreme though. I used it on them beofre but they didn't stay away for long

Gosh,i wouldn't put neat tea tree oil on a child's bottom (or an adult's for that matter.)
I would carry on with airing his bottom as much as possible, and not using bubble bathe or other smellies.

MeggLeVache · 26/03/2006 18:49

I didn't mean neat applied to his bum!!!!
Was going to suggest it added to water or in a bath Grin on second thoughts just some neat 80% proof vodka would be fab ha ha!

Never used sudocrem myself.

Cadbury · 26/03/2006 18:50

thanks - I don't use smellies on him anyway as he has excema on his legs. Its weird that this has only started since his bottom has been this much exposed

Yes it is odd...new washing powder??

MeggLeVache · 26/03/2006 18:50

I have used tea tree neat on ds's toe by the way which was infected and it worked like a dream.
Love the stuff.

Is he sitting on carpet or something rough which could be irritating his bum?

robinpud · 26/03/2006 18:56

could they be molluscum?

MrsBadger · 26/03/2006 18:58

must admit they sound like boil-type spot things - antiseptic cream would be my choice. Picking / scratching them will prob spread and make them recur - is he 'fiddling' more now he's nappyless?

Furball · 26/03/2006 19:04

I too would say washing powder. It has happened to me! very attractive!! It was only when I changed brands I realised that it had completely cleared up. DH also suffers and I now wash all underwear in 'Surcare'

Yafta · 26/03/2006 19:52

A bit of a hijack here, but thanks to robinpud I have just realised that what I thought was an odd form of eczema is actually molluscum. I googled it & I'm fairly sure. I have been wondering about why it wouldn't clear up. The spots are pimple like and raised.

Thanks.

Thanks for all your responses Smile

Have put sudocreme on it tonight (still going to bed with a nappy on.

Haven't changed laundry powder but he is now wearing pants close to his bottom (which have been washed with our usual non -bio) but he hasn't broken out anywhere else and his legs are usually very sensitive with his excema when it flares up.

Our rugs and carpet are pretty soft and tbh, he doesn't often sit down for very long - he's a fidget like his sister.

Definitley not molloscum - have seen them before (not on my two) so I know what I'm looking for. These are like the spots I get right before AF.

Will try sudocreme for a bit longer or germolene or something soothing. Have't noticed him fidling much at all lately though - went through a phase but seems to have got bored of them now that he can freely access them Wink

My son has started to get spots on his bum, i did wonder if it was the label iratating his bum then scratching. Have seem it in a few kids but dont know what causes it.

singersgirl · 30/03/2006 11:52

DS1 got spots on his bottom as soon as he was dry by day, but only wearing a Pull-Up at night - as if once the skin wasn't used to nappies all the time, it couldn't cope with the night. He is 7.5 now, and only dry at night since December, and his spotty botty has only cleared up since he has been out of night time Pull-Ups.

katyrocks · 30/03/2006 22:45

ds had this a few times at around two-ish. nothing had changed in the nappy routine and i realised after a while that it was whenever he'd had a particularly mucky day in the garden or been to the beach and I'd bathed him. He had a habit of sliding up and down the bath and had scratched his little botty on some grit from his hair!
