WARTS - what do I do ??

DD has a large wart on her ankle. It has been there for a while ( 18 months ) but up until now I have not been treating it.
It is beginning to upset her ( more vanity than pain ) and I was wondering whether or not there is anything that I can do to help?
Any ideas welcome.
Thanks

If you go to the doctor they put this freezing stuff on warts and within a short space of time the wart drops off!
My dh had this done and it was really effective - although not sure if they do it for children. Worth going up to the doctors though just in case.

A lot of health care providers won't treat warts now - immune system does eventually get rid of them but it takes months and even years. Have you checked at the pharmacy, over the counter remedies are very effective and I understand homeopathic ones are good too - not sure which but it ends in nic I think (not arsenic, sure of that!!!)

My ds says it doesnt hurt. You can get cream over the counter that does the same thing - but is not as effective (you apply it and then the wart drops off within a day) My dh tried this first but it didnt work for him (u could ask you chemits about this in relation to children.)
Can you believe this my Mum used to remove our verrucas as children bu heating up a knife and scraping them off!! Dear God it hurt!
Have you tried looking this up on NHS Direct Website. Also try www.netdoctor.co.uk and trpe in warts in the top left box (that says 'search net doctor) There is some good info about warts on here. x

PS: I said my ds says it didnt hurt - I meant my DH! my ds is only 16 months old!! and all he says is no and bertiee!

Ds has a huge cluster on his fingers. I did for a while, but they disappeared over night. Apparently they have a life of about 5 years and then they just go away. I haven't had any since, and I am not bothered about ds's as I am sure they will go of their own accord.

My homeopathy book says Thuja, but with homeopathy it's generally not that simple as it is prescribed on a whole person basis. (oh, and Lisa, there is a homeopathic remedy arsenicum which is derived from arsenic)

Slinky · 30/12/2003 22:13

My DS had several warts on his hands - both doctors and chemists were reluctant to prescribe anything for them due to his age (under 5).

He was due to start school in September 2002 and I was worried he might be teased but suddenly they disappeared one by one so that by the time he started school they were completely gone!

After having a verruca for six years i went to the doctor. But he said it wont last much longer now, and unless it is causing pain, to leave it. He said once your body fights it off once, you wont get any more. So it is better to leave them if a child gets one/some, as they wont get anymore as they get older.

Good God stupid girl, that must mean that my brain is beginning to work again. Badly obviously, but working!

Lisa78 · 30/12/2003 22:34

Won't get any more my arse!

saintshar · 30/12/2003 22:37

OK Jim Royle, just telling you what my Doc said!!

turnupthebass · 31/12/2003 14:10

I had a few when i was about ten and after trying everything under the sun to get rid they eventually went on their own. didnt get any again til about 2 yrs ago, which started with a verrucca then went to about 4 warts as well.

went to drs about them and got on the waiting list for liquid nitrogen, but before the appointment came through they had all disappeared on their own again - so hopefully no more now for another 20 years!

Fingers crossed yours will go soon

There's a previous thread on this, if any help.

I get the occasional wart on my hand, and over the years I've found that they are much easier to treat with over-the-counter salicylic acid products if you catch them quickly. However, it can be quite painful. My son developed warts (or molluscum contagiosum) when he was about 6 months old, first on his back and then all over his face by the time he reached his first birthday. GP couldn't suggest any treatment but I had a brainwave and took him to a homeopath who treated him with thuja, among other things. The result was astounding, they had all gone within 2 months. I would definitely recommend homeopathy as a baby-friendly way of treating this condition. Of course my GP was very sceptical despite photographic evidence!

Agree with Saintshar, ds had 10 plus on both hands a couple of years ago as did dd, however, didn't want to wait 2 years for them to go, so doctor prescribed this stuff in a tube and evry night we religiously applied it, they then afetr a couple of months just dropped off...although a pain was really worth it, if interested will try and remember name.

I read in a herbal book that if you can the milk from a fig tree that it is supposed to help,I am not too sure about it but maybe you would like to follow up on it.
