Is this just dry patches or something more?

MY ds is 7 months (nearly) and has had dry patches on tummy. hv gave me oilatum and epiderm which hasn't made much differnce in fact it has now spread to his back too. It covers pretty much the whole of his back, sometimes it does just look like rough dry skin but at other times it looks a bit red and sore.

I'm asthmatic so do have some history of allergies.
Do you think it's worth going to dr or will i just be wasting their time?

Take him to the doctor - he's only 7 months, better to get him checked out.

Yes you're right - just wanted to hear someone else say it.

Is there anything else I should be doing in terms of diet or washing? (we don't use any soapy products just the stuff hv gave us)

I wouldn't do anything with washing or diet until you've seen the GP - it could be something like eczema, and if it is then the GP will tell you what to use and what to avoid.

ANother good bath treatment is aveeno (can get it on prescription), it is made from oatmeal and I have been using on both my kids for 4 years. It eradicated dd's possible ezcema and has never returned.

FWIW a doctor once told me that a scientist had treated his dog with Johnson's products (for babies - ie the shampoo, body wash etc) and it induced dermatitis in the dog. I've no idea if that is true but food for thought!

Ds2 has eczema (I can never spell that, hope that's right) but started with it late - at 3. I use Surcare to wash his clothes, use Oilatum or E45 in the bath, and have a special shampoo as his scalp was very itchy. The GP prescribed hydrocortisone (the first one didn't work though - it's been trial and error) and Oilatum cream and I use them every day or his face really flares up. All those changes have made a big difference - he hardly gets any on his body now, and the patches on his face clear up quickly with the hydrocortisone.

But get him seen by the GP first Smile

Thanks everyone - interestingly he doesn't have anything at all on his face. But I think it itches him as we only have to touch his tummy or back and he's giggling, (he didn't use to) and does lots of writhing around when he's on his back.

Will make appt on mon.
