...will cause me to burst into tears

It's only the hope that I might die that is keeping me going

Nothing can hurt this much Sad

You don't mention any other infections, but if you're getting anything else such as repeated ear infections etc it may be worth asking for a fasting blood glucose test, just to rule out underlying diabetes (one of the first symptoms of diabetes can be repeated infections). If you have increased thirst, urination, and/or unexplained weight loss, deffo rule out diabetes.

KatyMac · 11/10/2012 15:47

I have regular urine tests for diabetes, I drink lots and wee lots; I wake up at night to drink rather than wee Wink

Have just come out of hospital Sad . I tried to sort out wee infection myself but ended up on IV gentomicin. I still feel uncomfortable down below though, sort of itchy/sore and feel as if I need a wee.

Waterfall D Mannose is excellent for curing and preventing cystitis, I had a phase of recurring cystitis for about 2 years, bought some and never get it now. It also could be food related, candida can cause cystitis-like symptoms.

hiddenhome · 11/10/2012 22:32

My recurrent cystitis was caused by tea, coffee, fruit juice and alcohol. All I can drink now are herbal teas, water and milk.

I was prescribed course after course of antibiotics, but it wasn't an infection that was causing it in the end.

doinmummy · 12/10/2012 00:32

That's interesting Magoo, I have wondered if diet has an affect. Is candida a fungal type thing? It would explains itchy sore feeling. Also what would make my wee smell 'sweet' a bit like hay?

FrustratedNovelist · 12/10/2012 12:25

Another Waterfall D Mannose convert here, it really does work.

I know lots of people swear by it but cranberry juice always made me feel worse. I've found that the Mannose plus being a bit obsessive about not getting dehydrated (I'm that girl with the giant bottle of water on the train/downing pints of water in the pub) has done the trick.

Sorry you're suffering OP x

magoosmom · 13/10/2012 15:11

yeah doin candida is an overgrowth of yeast in your gut. If you are prone to headaches, skin rashes, thrush or bloating it could be a problem for you. Waterfall D Mannose really worked for me but I think it can be stress related too

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 13/10/2012 15:16

Poor you Sad

Lots of sympathy from me - I've been in pain with a kidney infection all week and have also got thrush from the antibiotics. Not fun at all.

CoteDAzur · 13/10/2012 15:28

Yeast in your gut has nothing to do with thrush in your vagina, for the simple reason that they are two separate organs with no connection between them.

magoosmom · 13/10/2012 20:32

cote I was just pointing out that she may be prone to yeast overgrowth, can ocuur in the gut (Candida) and in the vagina (thrush)

CoteDAzur · 13/10/2012 21:40

Sorry if I have misunderstood. It seemed to me that you were talking about candida infection in the gut causing thrush - if diet has an effect on thrush etc.

ted thanks for that explanation, after suffering for years I went to a GP who is also a herbalist and as well as a herbal remedy she also recommended a high dose of Vit D daily so maybe thats why Ive been fine since.

magoosmom · 13/10/2012 22:20

also stay away from Cranberry juice-too acidic IME, cranberry tablets are great tho

theodorakis · 15/10/2012 12:48

Her original book in the 90s gave me a lot of help.

You really need to isolate the bug and determine whether it thrives in acidic or alkaline urine.I was plagued with cystitis and we worked out the bacteria i was prone to couldn't survive in acidic environments. Once I was clear of the bug I started a strict regime of drinking at least 2 litres of water a day and taking a triple strength cranberry tablet last thing literally before I turn the light off. This keeps the bladder acidic for the longest time. I haven't had a UTI since august 2011 and was getting them every fortnight previously. HTH

noddyholder · 15/10/2012 12:52

I am also on vit d
