i dont know but am bumping for you; i think you can coz cousin had it done during her C-section (and she was awake for that)..

tallmummy · 24/03/2006 20:00

I know two ladies who were sterilsed after delivery in a c-section.

expatinscotland · 24/03/2006 20:18

it is in the US. it'd one under spinal there.

zephyrcat · 24/03/2006 20:27

I've been offered sterilisation when I have my CS so I guess yes!

Highlander · 25/03/2006 10:54

ooh, zephyr - are they OK with doing it during a CS? I'm going to ask my OB in a few weeks time, but I'm kind of prepared for a brush-off. That would be soooooooooooooo good if I can have it done at the same time.

eminencegrise · 25/03/2006 10:55

I've known loads of women who had it done whilst having a planned csection. One of my first cousins, in fact, just had it in September whilst having csection w/her third and is pleased as punch.

Highlander · 25/03/2006 11:01

my sister said that she heard they can put in double clips if you're paranoid about getting preggers again. Think I'll ask for 3 Wink

eminencegrise · 25/03/2006 11:04

my cuz had double clips cuz she really didn't want anymore. she's 40 and had 3 in 3 years.

Blandmum · 25/03/2006 11:05

I was sterilised after I had ds by C section, so I had it done under a spinal.

I had my tubes removed, not clipped....I saw them in a little jar.....wierd!

6 years down the line I have no regrets at all.

They do warn you that if you have it post section there is a greater failure rate.....you also have to be totaly sure that whatever happens you don't want another child , ever, My consultant had no probelms with my having one. I was 37 at the time and my breeding days were over (for me, you understand) I also had a tricky pg, with pre eclampsia with both

malodorantemelly · 26/03/2006 13:25

Dh and I are tossing up who gets it done! I had an eptopic and know what the op was like for that, bloody painful (had a laporoscapy (sp?) really hurts your shoulders too)... so I only have one tube left to do, but got pregnant with twins with it, so am 95% sure we don't want anymore. My pregnancies are really tough, and I think 4 kids is enough, we are so lucky with the ones we have!! :)

But it is still a big decision, I just don't want to be laid up after a general anasthetic. Also none of my births were c sections, so never had the choice then, not sure I would have done it then anyway, while full of baby hormones!

malodorantemelly

You are in and out in a day, very little afterpains, and full recovery is 2 -3 days, it is just key hole surgerySmile

zebrabra · 27/03/2006 14:34

is it true there's a risk of them nicking the bladder (causing permanent problems) when they do it as keyhole? That scares me.

malodorantemelly · 28/03/2006 10:52

But I had keyhole for my ectopic, and it was awful. The pain in my shouders from being blown up was horrendous. Then 2 days later I had to fly back to the Uk, (from paris) in agony, I could hardly walk, dh had to push me on a trolley, and then beg the airline for a wheelchair. Then I was laid up in bed for a week at least.

have you had it done waterfalls??

waterfalls · 28/03/2006 11:30

Yes I've had it done, they did say I might get a pain in my shoulder, but I never did, I was just a bit sore in my stomach for a couple of days and felt very bloated, I went into hospital at 9am and was home by 3pm, I suppose people have different experiencesSmile
