Chloenot sure that I have much to add as I am not a doctor for sure. Conditions that effect the skin (ie chapped lips) can relate to a Vitamin E deficiency. I am all for the natural path whenever possible. You have done well to get her blood checked for sure. Cranio-Osteo is fantastic if you are able to do this to see why she is not eating. Does she not have an appetite, does she have allergies you might not be aware of, etc. I also believe in herbs. As she is only 14 months old, you can not really add anthing into the diet without the very best professional advice. If she has been through many courses of antibiotics, she would also benefit greatly from a probiotic supplement in the morning and eveningagain you must get a recommended dosage for her weight. The probiotics will add bacteria to her digestive tract to help her digest and assimilate her food--these bacterias are natually present in all of our systems, but when we take antibiotics to kill the cold, it unfortunatly wipes out the good bacteria also. Her system will produce the bacteria on it's own, but this helps her get a good start. I wish you and your dd the best.

Thanks for that! have a friend who is a homeopothy practitioner so decided to let her have a go! not thought of cranial osteopathy but will investigate it! biggest probelm seems to be her not eating which occasionally stems to 2 teaspoon fulls of any random foodstuff, no pattern tho! she seems to if anything crave green things? she likes peas and will eat one by one about 5 which although nothing is alot for her or a couple of slices of cucumber? wouldnt know which herbs to try. thought of camamile but didnt know how to ' get it into her' when she isnt eating, drinking in small doses too! of course! one course of antibiotics but i dont think they bothered her. her colds have only once reached the infection level, and like you i try use alternative as best as possible!

Is she licking her lips? My ds went through a phase of terrible chapped lips through licking his lips and he was also a bit dehydrated after a tummy bug and the two combined to give him the most awful chapping. If your dd has been inside a lot with the heating on, had a streamy cold etc, she may be a bit dehydrated. I know you have probs getting anything into her, but more liquid may help. I also used Weleda's calendula oil on ds's lips and it helped a lot.

also cold weather, central heating and dribbling through teething can cause this.....

eidsvold · 30/12/2003 19:23

my dd is teething with a few teeth coming through at once and she is sucking her bottom lip which is quite chapped and dry even almost down to her chin... just rub on vaseline in the morning.... seems to help.

I get rough lips with a cold. Hadn't been out since Christmas Eve until today but already sore so perhaps dry heated atmosphere doesn't help, juat like eczema. Could you try a little vaseline on them at night ?

Lisa78 · 30/12/2003 19:44

Bodyshop's lipbalm (£4.50) is the best thing for chapped lips as far as I am concerned - and I don't get coldsores since I started using that! But its probably just vaseline with something smelly in it

yoko · 30/12/2003 20:17

definately vaseline,my ds has it as he suffers chapping badly and it works wonders.

Chandra · 31/12/2003 19:57

I agree with popsycal and vote for the vaseline
