D&V bug - do I need to wake him for liquid

DS 7 mo has been vomiting with funny nappies since yest. NHS Direct said I should wake him regularly to feed him which I did last night but wouldnt he was mega tired today. How long can I leave him to sleep in others opinion. He wont take the rehydrating stuff, or calpol and big feeds make him sick so he is prob quite dehydrated.

thanks x

will he take a bottle? if so just try feeding him without waking him up... just stick the bottle in his mouth and let him drink

Thanks starlover, he does have bottles but I am trying to breastfeed until he is better as think formula might be more likely to come back up. Problem with bf though is its hard to see how much he has had too much bleugh to little hysterical crying from the little man. Think I will wake him when I go up then again at about 2:00 if he is still asleep then around 6:00.

Actually I am worried giving him the hydrating stuff is going to put him off bottles as he is shaking his head vigerously and pursing his lips when anything oter than a booby comes his way Grin

have you thought about asking on the breastfeeding thread as i thought it was possible to dream feed whilst sleeping or have you thought about expressing and giving it in a bootle as a dream feed.

He woke for feeds in the end last night. I think that it is poss to dreamfeed, I will try that tonight if he isn't waking by himself, thanks. Bit worried because he wont take the rehydrating fluid so will have to keep an eye on him.

Breastmilk is better for him than the rehydrating fluid, it will sort him out fine. You're right to not bother with formula while he's ill.

You can do dreamfeeds with boob, you want to maybe do a bit of hand expressingy sort of stuff to make your letdown come.
