URGENT dd2 has swallowed small amounts of sudocrem

as the skin around her mouth is very sore and I put some around her mouth. She licked some of it off. On the jar it says seek medical help if swallowed accidentally. Do I really have to, or will a tiny amount be okay?

how old is she?

Feistybird · 22/03/2006 19:38

but I would think if you can apply around the mouth, the assumption would be that it could be licked off by small children.

Toots · 22/03/2006 19:38

Sure someone will be along that this has happened to. My feeling? It's fine. Hth

emkana · 22/03/2006 19:39

she's two and a half

Just got this off the Sudocrem website:-

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been reported. If large amounts are swallowed accidentally, this may cause vomiting, diarrhoea, CNS stimulation and convulsions. Symptomatic treatment should be provided.

My own feeling is that she'll be fine.

shrimpy169 · 22/03/2006 19:42

no problem if small amounts (am a clinician but also have had similar experience with ds who came to no harm after eating a handful of the stuff!)

edam · 22/03/2006 19:43

Emkana, I'm no doctor but I'm prepared to bet that there's no need to worry. Honestly.

emkana · 22/03/2006 19:45

Thank you all.

What on earth is CNS stimulation???

Central Nervous System (I think)

shrimpy169 · 22/03/2006 19:48

seriously "trust me i'm a doctor" if small amounts no harm will come. HTH

Cadbury · 22/03/2006 19:50

my dd did this (shortly before smearing it all over my carpets). she was fine - I checked with nhs direct and they told me not to worry. The carpets however . . . Angry

tissy · 22/03/2006 19:52

my dd used to eat it by the fingerful, given half a chance, and it never occurred to me to worry!

izzybiz · 22/03/2006 19:53

i caught my 22 month Dd sat on the sofa dipping her finger in the pot and licking it off like it was really tasty! She is fine too.

Nightynight · 22/03/2006 19:54

same here. my children found sudocreme fascinating, smearable and edible.

alexsmum · 22/03/2006 20:03

ds1 ate a load of this and i phoned a&e who said i would just get some grotty nappies!
i also caught him sucking coal that he had taken out of the fire once......

SleepyJess · 22/03/2006 20:16

My DS2 has eaten all sorts with no ill effects (although advice always sought.. sometimes via NHS Direct and them contacting the poisons unit!)

Some culinary delights that spring to mind are..

A large-ish smear of Yellow Ochre acrylic paint..

A WHOLE large Pritt Stick

An unspecified quantity (but not a small amount) of poo :( (He got to his nappy early one morning.. he has SN.. he now wears 'high rise' garments to bed.. ALWAYS!!!)

hugeheadofhair · 22/03/2006 20:19

Getting it in their hair is perhaps much worse! It's a bitch to get out! (Speaking from experience, obviously Smile.)

nathollyandmatthew · 23/03/2006 09:38

my son who is 21 month decided 2 months ago to eat washing powder, he was puring it donw his mouth

gave him water called nhs direct and they said its not toxic, then he started vomiting huge amounts and only coz of his other probelms did end up in hosp one night, it did bring him out in spots to lol

i dont think sudocream would do much harm

ruty · 23/03/2006 14:33

caught ds sucking my handcream out of the tube once. Rang doctors in a terrible state and he said not to worry but he may have diarrhoea. And wow he did. But didn't seem any the worse for wear.
