I had my Postnatal check up on C'mas eve. Mad GP asked me if I felt alright, took my blood pressure and that was it...! Am I not supposed to have an internal or something, check my cervix hasn't fallen out or similar?!

i was amazed by this too.....fairly normal i think....

I think you are supposed to have an internal...I did at both of mine.

But everything else you said sounds right.

popsycal · 28/12/2003 16:26

i didnt have an internal....

Bit crap then - honestly, he's hopeless. Lovely man, but hopeless. I felt very breathless at my one week check up and he listened to my chest and as it was clear, he looked bemused and then asked me what I thought it could be...????

I didn't have an internal, was expecting one though. I;m pretty sure that they can tell what's going on inside by palpating from the outside. I'm sure that if anything unusual was felt, they medical pro would perform an internal.

apologies for the embarrassing typos....

Lisa78 · 28/12/2003 16:31

Didn't palpitate from the outside either!

My mad GP did palpate from outside, suggested a 'lady doctor to check for prolapse' when I mentioned my SPD (no, thank you) and tentatively mentioned contraception, obviously embarrassed to speak about such things to a lady (er, since I managed to get to the age of 37 before my first baby and this was my second I think we can conclude I know about this)...

Lisa78 · 28/12/2003 18:02

I asked mine about the mini pill and he gave me a leaflet...

I had no internal first time round but second time a lady Dr (old school) felt the need to do an internal and also gave me a lecture about resuming 'services' to my DH (she thought it was unfair that I didn't want to at the time, felt like asking her if she had ever had a baby, what with the second degree tear, b/feeding boobs teamed with lack of sleep I thought we were normal) she was concerned that he would feel left out, the poor wee soul (insert sarcastic smilie).

Old school drs are weird aren't they?

I didn't have internals at either of mine after Em C secs.
Didn't even get palpated at the first one (shame they didn't pick op on the adhesions but that's another story) My lastest PN was with a fabulous African Dr, camp as a row of tents and he told me that my scar was so wonderful I could wear hipster jeans! (However I still feel like Frankenstein)

No internal at mine either, but they did check when my next smear was due (next year) and I would have had it at the PN if it was due. Dr was mainly concerned with contraception - very pushy in fact.

I refused to go to my check-up after DS2, because the one I had after DS1 was such a waste of time. He just asked me how I felt, no examination at all. I could have done that myself using a mirror. The surgery wrote to me 3 times urging me to attend, but I refused, in writing.
