Temperatures

Dd2 has caught a virus off Dd1 and has had a temperature most of the day, which I have been keeping under control with Calpol. However, just before she went to bed she felt really cold, and her little hands were icy. Is this normal, should I be worried?

Bomper, when Dd recently had a temperature her hands were quite cold some of the time. This isn't that helpful for you but wanted to bump this so hopefully someone with more experience will come along. Hope she's soon feeling better.

Bomper cold hand with a fever is not a good sign. It is one of the signs to look out for when considering menigitus.
I hasten to add that it is only one of the signs. It is not uncommon for an unwell child to have a fever and cold hands, (especially when we strip them down)
If she is otherwise ok, I would keep an eye on it, if she is not, I would be phoning the dr or NHS 24 for advice.
Alternate calpol and nurofen for her temp and keep a very close eye on her

Hi, thanks for your replies and sorry I didn't get back sooner, only I have been dealing with two sick dd's all night, and it's only just now that I have finally got time to myself. It seems dd2 has just got a nasty cold, this morning she was caked in snot!!! She did develop a strange rash on her arms which alarmed me but they are very small pinpricks rather than the nasty purple blotches associated with menigitis, but just to be on the safe side I did the old 'tumbler test' and they disappeared - phew!! Remind me again why we have children?! Smile
