Seeing endocrinologist privately? ( thyroid)

I have had thyroid disease (hashimoto's) for about 7 years now. I get levothyroxine from my gp and have blood tests every now and then. DP and I are thinking about trying for a baby and I know from previous conversations with endo consultants that ideally my TSH should be less than two. This is also when I feel most human. My GP doesn't agree though and thinks that 3.4 is fine. She will lot increase my thyroxin or refer me. Im tired, I'm struggling to concentrate and my hair is gallon out by handfuls. Incidentally, I also have low ferritine levels.
I'm considering seeing an endocrinologist privately and have been wondering if anyone has any experience with this?
What cost am I looking at?
Will be GP follow their recommendations if she hasn't referred me?

Can you recommend anyone in the south east?
Thanks for reading!

You should go back. Your levels sound very unstable. I go to an endocrinologist privately twice a year and he recommends my meds. This keeps my levels optimum. Your gp isn't managing your levels well enough.

Hi

I live in High Wycombe not far from Hertfordshire and in a crisis with my thyroid, it's very urgent due to causing me AF arrhythmia, i' terrified, angry, desperate and panicking, I live alone no family support, my GP's are useless, it's taken repeated visits and they still don't know how to interpret my blood test results. They neither associate my heart problems with borderline under-active thyroid, I also have sjogren's syndrome which complicates matters. I need tests for Hasmoto's which is a common side effect of Sjogren's.

The specialist you saw sounds very good, can you recommend this person to me and forward the details of who I contact please?

Also can you give me a price guide on the CT scans?

Kind regards

Connie Bond

My GP told me they were not allowed to prescribe more than 25mcg so could not increase my dose of Levothyroxine. She stood by this even when I told her my DSis was newly diagnosed and prescribed 50mcg as was my DB who has a normal TSH but was on 50mcg for fatigue. I stood my ground for an Endo referral.

When I went to the hospital the 1st thing the Endo asked me was why I was on such a low dose with a TSH of 8.9! When she listened to my symptoms she said I needed to be on 100mcg and devised a plan to increase to that level.

I don't suppose the GP cared that they'd spouted a load of rubbish to me. OP you should not have to see a private Endo. If you still have symptoms your GP should refer you.
