Very swollen glands in neck

My DH woke up this morning looking like a hamster! He has had a cold for the past few days, but he has been ok. He said he has a slight sore throat but otherwise is feeling ok, eating and drinking and swallowing are painless.

I think he was a bit swollen yesterday because I looked at him a few times and though he had put weight on because his face looked fat! Blush

I know glands swell when you are poorly but these are huge, his whole face is really large and his neck has sort of disappeared, he looks a bit like he is puffing both his cheeks out.

Any ideas? Worth a visit to the GP? He has mild allergies/asthma and usually has a bit of a cold and cough.

Bump.

I just googled mumps and his face looks a bit like that :( - please tell me a 28 year old man who has had the mmr can't get mumps.

I think he needs to see a GP, honestly - it sounds as if it could be mumps though hard to tell online!

Get an emergency appointment tomorrow morning..don't be fobbed of..can I suggest you the oldest doctor there who will have seen the most mumps over his/her professional career...

This would not be the first case of mumps I have heard of in an adult this week. (and I don't work in any kind of medically related field) sorry. Hope he is better soon.

Oh shit.

I have rang him (not at home at the moment) and told him to go to GP but he is saying it is fine and he has to go to work tomorrow because he has a busy day. Ahh. I cannot get home tonight and make him. Stressed now.

He works in an FE college (although doesn't really come into contact with students) but there are obviously a lot of older teenagers there - so lots of people to get germs from.

He doesn't have a temperature, doesn't feel unwell really.

he needs to go to see the GP and he could be putting others at risk if he does have mumps (I know not on purpose). why won't men go to the doctor???

There's a small but significant risk of acutely agonising testicular sweling associated with mumps in adult men.....maybe that's convince him?
