Laser eye sugery to fix a tear in my retina. Nervous. Don't know what to expect.

On Wednesday I'm having laser eye surgery to fix my retina as it has a tear, with a cyst at the end and a bubble around the cyst. I have no idea what to expect both during and after. I tried googling it but just scared myself.
Has anyone had this done to them? What happens, how long does it take etc?
Also does anyone know what the risk is of it happening again?

Thank you, after it's been lasered (sp?) is there anything you can't do?

My Mum had both retina's detach, lots of resting on your side is required.

Oh, there is also a chance of cataract after surgery, she had that twice with lens replaced.

Thanks, must admit I'm not looking forward to it especially since i'm only 20 and it sounds like something that i'll always have.

DH had a hole in his retina - he was under the retina clinic in M/Cr at the time. They put dilating drops in his eyes, and just zapped the tear with the lazer - it was a bit like a hole punch where the little circle of paper remains attached. He hadn't been aware of it.

He's also had a partially-detached retina. He wasn't aware of it, and it re-sealed itself on its own. The prof was so impressed that he asked dh to have a photo taken so they could have it in their records. He now takes the photo to the opticians, so that they don't freak out when seeing it, on the basis if it's not worse, nothing needs doing about it.
