Diagnose my daughter?

My daughter is 23, lives away from home. She's always been slim but this time she has come home and tells me she now weighs 104 pounds, which is way to little for 5'8". She is literally now just skin and bone with a BMI of 15.8.

I am satisfied that she is not anorexic. I have experience of living and working with anorexics and don't see any of the signs in her. I see her eat well, she has a balanced diet, cooks from scratch and stopped being veggie some time ago in an effort to keep her weight up, but it clearly hasn't worked and she is still getting thinner.

Her hair and skin look dry to me, but her nails are good. Her complexion looks perhaps a little yellow. She is also permanently tired.

When she had a sudden burst of panic attacks some years ago her thyroid was tested and she was told it was OK, not over-active, which is obviously what the doc was looking for. She had some CBT and the panic attacks went away.

I have tried to talk to her about it, but she says she's fine, although she is clearly not.

Some years ago she had a tentative diagnosis of Congenital Adrenal either Hypo or Hyper Plasia, I don't know which, but the hospital screwed up her appointments and then she went off to uni and she's never had her test results.

We've got a big family wedding next weekend and after that is out of the way I want to be able to sit her down and give her some good reasons why she should go to the doc again.

MNers, can you give me some?

Eating well and losing weight is reason enough I think.

I don't know anything about the adrenal condition but you might be wise to find out some more about it, in case she might have that, and it might be linked.

I hope you can persuade her to go.

Could she have jaundice,in which case she may need to get medical attention asap,if not then monday morning.
Am partly bumping this so that others with more medical knowledge than me may reply.

Liver related?

Yellow skin and losing weight need a doctor's appointment. Sooner rather than later.

You say it was some years ago that she had her thyroid checked? I think it would be worth getting it done again. I had these symptoms in my early 20s and was diagnosed with Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I will talk to her next week.
