or at least I think it is. Not sure what Ive done but its getting more painful.

I have one of those tubular thingies and am eating anti inflamatories like sweets.

if the pain is getting worse - i would be inclined to go to A&E in case it is a small fracture.

Hope it gets better soon x

madmarchhare · 18/03/2006 18:37

Oh fek, really? It does feel as though its right in the joint though when I poke round it.

Although having said that, Im no physiological expert and dont really know what Im talking about.

Any physios on here?

Try
Rest
Ice (frozen peas or a gel pack are good cos they mould)
Compression (bandage)
Elevation
overnight and gently flexing to keep it mobile. Arnica might help minimise bruisng and swelling. If it is very swollen or painful in the morning then you may want to visit a Walk In or a and E.

madmarchhare, have youinjured your wrist at all?
have you any history of artheritus?. when you say the joint are the bones of your wrist sore?
do you have pain on rotation?

If you have a clear history of an injury and point tenderness over your wrist bones then you should consider a and e for and x ray.

If you have a history of arthritius or pain on rotation of your wrist you may have developed mild arthritis or a condition called tensonovitis. Your gp would be able to treat this with a course of anti-inflammitories and sometimes a wrist splint.

Soft tissue inj can take up to 6 weeks to heal, the advice liz gave plus anti inmflamitories is great. If the pain persist after this or becomes worse then you could see your gp.

madmarchhare · 19/03/2006 11:11

No specific injury.
No arthritus.
Yes, pain on rotation.

I really wanted to avoid GP but it looks as though Im going to have to go as I have woke up this morning at I cant really do much without it hurting and thats before Ive had a day of using it. Very fed up.

Pain on rotation can indicate a mild fracture, from what I know. Not necessarily.

You need to see a GP or at least a physio. You might want to get a scrip for stronger anti-inflammatories, I find voltrol/diclofenac does a much better job than iboprofen.

Kayleigh · 19/03/2006 11:16

have to agree with jessicaandrebeccasmummy. I "sprained" my ankle four weeks ago. Am still in a plaster cast as I actually fractured a bone just above the ankle Sad
Really is better to know for definite what you have done - then you can treat it properly. Good luck.

madmarchhare · 19/03/2006 11:20

Not looking good, I'll definately ring GP in the morning.

Should I keep a tubular bandage on it in the meantime do you think? It cant make it any worse can it?

Definately get it looked at. There is a bone called the scaphoid that can get broken and when it does it often seems like the wrist is sprained - that is until it doesn't get better. It is common for people to walk into A&E upto six weeks after an injury and find that the scaphoid is broken! This is complicated by the fact that it often doesn't show up on xray until a couple of weeks after the injury anyway.
I broke my wrist 3 weeks ago (broke radius bone) but I'm also waiting to find out if my scaphoid is also involved. My sister is a physio BTW.

Chapsmum · 19/03/2006 20:43

loobywoolf a scaphoid fracture usually comes from a fall onto an outsretched hand. It is unlkiely that you will get any # without trauma. (unless you have osteoparosis etc)
Madmarch hair a tubigrip would not make it any worse. As pain is increasing, best to let your gp examine it to see if you need a wrist splint or indeed an x-ray.
Hope your wrist feels better soon

expatinscotland · 19/03/2006 20:46

have you injured it in the past? i did something to my upper back picking up a heavy case when i was 18 - 17 years ago - and that thing still hurts for days every now and again.

Chapsmum · 19/03/2006 20:48

Hi expat!!!

No specific injury.

Yes, pain on rotation.

madmarchhare · 20/03/2006 14:40

Very very painful last night, couldnt sleep etc..I have an appointment at GPs tomorrow afternoon.

Its with the registrar so Im quite confident I wont get fobbed, always chomping at the bit and all that.

OP posts:
madmarchhare · 20/03/2006 14:41

fobbed off

OP posts:
madmarchhare · 21/03/2006 18:01

How wrong was I then?, completely fobbed off. Take pain killers and anti inflams with tubigrip constantly (I had been taking it off occasionally) and rest as much as you can (hahahahaha) and come back in a week if it still hurts as much. Harumph.
