I've had palpitations before- like most people prbably, just a one off, but tonight it started about 8pm and lasted till about 10. Really wierd sensation and very strange, I couldn't ignore them.

I'm 30 wks pregnant.

TIA

I'm sure its nowt to worry about, but you could call NHS Direct if you are concerned.

I've never had them for that long. Were they on and off?

bramblina · 14/09/2012 23:39

Pretty much constant, I guess I'd best describe it like a very irregular heartbeat. Stop start, boom, normal, bang, maybe had a ten second period where there was nothing then it would just do it again. I feel fine, am not suffering from anything that I know of, was not doing anything at the time. I'm not unduly concerned but think 2 hrs of it could do with an explanation.

I did consider calling NHS24 just as they stopped, but had put it off for that long as I'm on my own with 2 little ones sleeping, 10 miles from the drs and 75 miles from local hospital. Perhaps bad judgement but it may have caused more hassle than it was worth! Thought MN would have an answer....

If you have no other symptoms, I should think that its nothing to worry about; Dr Google has suggested that its common to have palpitations in pregnancy.

Ah, thank you for that! I only got a wikipaedia explanation and thought this is far too deep! Will mention it to mw in 2 weeks. Unless i end up in casualty before then!!!

Thanks Smile

For once, Dr G has given a reassuring diagnosis! Grin

It is common in pregnancy. If it happens again take your pulse, if it is very fast then you can try to stop it with a big chunk of ice cread swallowed in one.

It doesn't always work but has no adverse effects. Do mention it to the health visitor / GP they may do an ECG.
