I have a 3 and a half hour course (practical based) coming up. I'm due to come on either the day before it or on the day itself. I mentioned to the person who has booked me on the course about needing to leave to change at least once, and apparently it's not normal to have to change pads/tampon/mooncup that often.

So, women of MN, on your heaviest day how long can you go without changing?

Er why did you have to mention it? I mean can't you have a loo break?

DanyTargaryen · 14/09/2012 20:29

Tell him to fuck off, your body and you know how often you need to change and it's not up to him/her to label it abnormal.
A quick "Excuse me, I need to visit the ladies" don't wait for an answer, its not primary! Is it?

In answer to your question in the first few days anywhere from an hour and half to 2 and a half. Levels out after that.

FrustratedSycamorePants · 14/09/2012 20:29

2 hours on heaviest day. But always back up the extra heavy flow lillets tampon with a pad.

out2lunch · 14/09/2012 20:30

strange answer from course person - i would say a couple of hours

ChaosTrulyReigns · 14/09/2012 20:30

That is really way over sharing. Just nip to the loo.

greenandcabbagelooking · 14/09/2012 20:35

Not allowed to just slip out, it's a dance class basically. I am a pupil for the duration.

I didn't ask the course organiser, I asked my (female) friend if we would be getting a break and she said "no, why?" And then when I told her, she rolled her eyes and said it wasn't normal. So I wanted to find out what is.

Heaviest day no more than about 1 1/2 hours with either a maxi tampon or pad. Like that for a few days then evens out

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 14/09/2012 20:39

On the first 2 days my flow is really light, for the 2 days after that I have to empty my mooncup every 2 hours, then it tails right off again until the end.

DameEnidsOrange · 14/09/2012 20:39

Heaviest day about 45 mins to an hour with a mooncup

bigTillyMint · 14/09/2012 20:39

Oh God, before I went on the HRT, I was using a super plus tampon and a thick towel and having to change both every hour on the first "proper" day!

Boggler · 14/09/2012 20:41

I think most people would struggle to go 3 1/2 hours without a wee, you're bound to be allowed to go to the toilet, it would be totally unreasonable if you can't.

discrete · 14/09/2012 20:42

Heaviest day, on a heavy period maybe 6 hours on a normal tampon. But usually I just change morning and evening and not because I have to.

Everyone is different. Who gives a fuck whether it's normal or not? It's what your body does and that's that.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/09/2012 20:42

Could you take the pill to stop your period?

Jellykat · 14/09/2012 20:44

Blimey, that's intense.. Over 3 hours of jiggling around and she reckons you wouldn't need to change?
Day 1 + 2 for me would be every hour, @ 3/4 thereafter.

MrsPnut · 14/09/2012 20:46

Go to your GP and ask for some tranexamic acid to reduce your flow and the length of your period.

Before I had treatment, I would only be able to go for an hour and a half before leaking. I flooded regularly and was thoroughly miserable.

I started on tranexamic acid and the difference was so dramatic, then I had an implant fitted and haven't had a period since.

AWomanCalledHorse · 14/09/2012 20:47

Used to be every hour for me, then GP perscribed me tranexamic acid.
Now I don't even need to wear a tampon (the pills clot the blood).

Will there be no breaks during the practical?

floradix · 14/09/2012 20:48

Hourly when it is heavy.

It might not be 'normal' to your instructor but everyone is different. I would flood the floor.

MNhoneydragonHQ · 14/09/2012 20:52

25 minutes with a moon cup. About 15 with a super tampon. Do I won a prize? Grin
Perhaps a catsbum mouth from your dopey friend? Wink

Nuttyprofessor · 14/09/2012 20:53

I found wearing a tampax and a pad would get me through on such occasions. Ccould not go more than an hours. Now had endometrial ablation.

BonnieBumble · 14/09/2012 20:57

On my heaviest days I need to change once an hour. Before I had ds2 I needed to change every 15 minutes. My periods are not so heavy any more but I pass quite big clots which come out the side of the tampon. Tmi but you did ask!

greenandcabbagelooking · 14/09/2012 20:58

Honeydragon yep, you win!

Going to just cross my fingers I'm early or late.
