Metronidazole and cooking with alcohol

I know it says to avoid alcohol, and I am, but what about alcohol in cooking? Have made spanish chicken tonight which has sherry in it, without even thinking about the ab's, and now am wondering if I should eat it or not? Do not want to throw up, which is what will apparently happen if I mix the two! Any ideas?

The alcohol boils off during the cooking process, so you're just left with the flavour. It should be fine. Should be. Smile

Inneedofbrandy · 14/09/2012 19:12

I wouldn't risk it!

Corygal · 14/09/2012 19:13

I wouldn't! I had infected fangs on my birthday and enjoyed coq au vin with these pills. Boy, was I sick.

Ok, that's enough for me. I'm off to get a pizza. The chicken will freeze Smile Thanks for the replies.

Did the same as Corygal and it all went horribly wrong.

Glad you decided against it. It's a strong drug!

GoingBlankAgain · 14/09/2012 21:42

Not in beer batter, I hope!

Inneedofbrandy · 14/09/2012 22:37

Iv'e heard of people being affected by the perfume in deodrants ect while on Metronidazole, it really is a horrible antibiotic!

lookout · 15/09/2012 09:29

GoingBlankAgain (love the nameSmile), just your regular common and garden chippie variety Wink

I'm staying well away from anything alcoholic, perfume or otherwise! I am wondering why they prescribe it if it's so foul!

might you get the significance of my nn?

I've not had the deodorant problem or anything else, it does space me out though. Had it about 3 times too.

lookout · 15/09/2012 13:23

It does me too. I have spent the last three days in a haze.
(Does the nn have something to do with 90's shoegazing?)

I'm sharing my experience in case someone finds it useful. I'm on metronidazole (flagyl) and yesterday I had a stew in a restaurant that had been cooked in red wine. Chef said the wine was only a small amount and the alcohol would all have been boiled off as the stew was simmering for quite some time. So there would have only been a tiny tiny amount of alcohol left.
I felt fine afterwards, took my evening dose and went to bed. Woke up the next morning like I had a hangover, not an awful one but sweating with a headache and feeling dizzy. Went away after a couple of hours with a headache tablet.
So in people who are susceptible even the tiniest tiniest amount can make you feel bad. Don't risk alcohol even in food, desserts, chocolates etc.
