Very heavy bleeding. do I need to see someone, or can it wait until tomorrow?

Brief background:

Had DC3 by CS in May.
Also sterilised (tubal ligation) at the same time.

Since then I've been bleeding more than I've not, but it was perfectly manageable and usually light.
10 days ago I woke up flooded and passing clots the size of my hand. Maxi pads soaked through in under an hour.
GP gave me some progesterone to slow it down and test results showed infection so I was given antibiotics.

I finished the antibiotics yesterday and now the bleeding is back. heavy enough to drip on the floor

My doctor's says there's no appointments now and I just have to try and get in tomorrow.

I'm finding it very distressing tbh and wondering what to do.

Can anyone offer me any advice please? DP is asking me if I should go to A&E, but that seems excessive to me for what is essentially a heavy period.

What about ringing NHS direct? See what they say if your in the right area (? 0845 46 47 (yes, its a short number)

Sounds like you should be seen to me - what happens if there are no appointments tomorrow as well?

I think you need to be seen today. Is it your period?

Did your hospital give you a follow up telephone number? Nhs direct sounds like a good idea too.

I've just had an idea and phoned my doc asking for a call from GP.

I'm literally leaving drips of blood on the bathroom floor

I've not been referred to hospital, just had antibiotics for 'an infection'.

Is there a walk in centre near you, can you manage to get out to one if there is.

I'd make a big fuss, and getting a call back from a GP should get you a resolution today. Even if it is just for a prescription to be waiting for you to collect and a proper appointment tomorrow.

transexamic acid is pretty good. I had that for very heavy periods before I had the implant fitted (when they stopped all together)

Sounds like you need to be seen. I'd ring the health direct for advice as it doesn't sound right at all.

I think you need to be seen, ask for iron blood tests as well. With so much bleeding it's possible you are anaemic.

You poor thing. I meant, sorry, did they give you a number to call after you had your c section? I vaguely remember being given some numbers when I left hospital, and I think this sounds related to your c section etc, so I think you'd be within reason to give them a try as well as the GP. Nhs direct are also useful for finding local walk in centres and what not.

Right I've got to do the school run now - what's the betting the gp will ring while I'm driving??

If I don't hear anything, I'll ring nhs direct when I get back.

Go to A&E, if you are passing clots that size you should be seen.

Don't put it off, what's the point? get seen asap in these cases as better safe than sorry. Hope you're ok x

Do you mean you've been bleeding non stop since may and its suddenly got much worse? If so i would go to the hospital.

Tena super + are the best pads for heavy bleeding and the dry-night sheet pads for beds (next to nappies in any supermarket).

Yes definitely get seen today! No point being ill when you don't need to be. If you can't get in at your gps, try the local hospital. Our local hospital has a drop in gp service and the one I saw was a million times better than any gp I've ever had :) Hope you get sorted soon

The gp just rang, I'll be seeing someone in an hour ish. Phew.

I've got some transexemic acid to try and slow it down.

Fingers crossed it works fast.

Have you had a scan? If not I would be asking for one to rule out any retained products (fragments of placenta etc)

It's not really normal to be bleeding for 4 months after having your baby.

Things seem to have slowed down to a manageable level, so that's a relief.

The GP said that the progestorone I took last time can sometimes make your next period much heavier, like a rebound effect?? SO I'm not sure what's going on now. I'll just have to wait and see how things pan out, and hopefully it'll settle down over the next few weeks.

If not, I'll be back in the doctor's asking for more investigations.
