I know this is trivial when compared to lots of problems but DS has had a cold for 6 weeks now.
He's had a chest infection and been given 2 courses of antibiotics and then just when he got over that he picked up ANOTHER cold.
His nose is pouring, he can't sleep, is constantly coughing and we're supposed to be travelling to the inlaws tomorrow for xmas.

sooooo tired as he isn't sleeping properly. WHEN will he be cold free? ARGGGGHHHHH

sorry, feeling fluey myself tonight.

Katie - much sympathy. We ended up taking ds to hospital a couple of weeks ago, due to asthma related to a heavy cold. We all had a period of 4 weeks where at least two of the three of us had a stinking cold. Dh has been unwell for weeks. I know how horrible you feel...it really takes it out of you when the littlees are poorly doesn't it We had ds in the bed with us for 10 days, so not much sleep for any of us.

Let the in-laws help you as much as possible this week. Have a fab Xmas.

(((hugs))) these things do seem to happen all at once, don't they?

Hope you're all feeling better soon.

Ahh KR, I remember the days. My Rachel didn't really sleep through the night until she was 3 years old and she was sick on and off almost every 4 weeks after she went to nursery. Many nights we had to sleep with her sitting up in the chair as her coughing would not stop. She seemed to pick up every cold and bug at the school. It does just feel like forever...I can understand you. Lots of my friend's children did sleep through and weren't ask sick as my daughter. It is the lack of sleep for both of you that causes you to lose your perspective. I don't know how old he is now, but try to keep his diet clean over the holidays, the sweets will only create more mucus in his system. Probiotics are also very good to add to his diet as this will help his digestive system after his course of antibiotics for the infection. Sending lots of hugs over to you and I hope the both of you are feeling better soon!

Hi sc

Its probably a very obvious thing to say but are you supplementing him with vitamin tonic or drops? My dd is still getting colds, and I don't know if its my imagination, but her colds have been less 'aggressive' since I've been giving daily vitamin tonic

katierocket · 23/12/2003 08:22

thanks ladies - hmc I actually wondered about vit drops - I haven't given them to him before(he's 2 yrs) should he have them? He's a good eater and has a fairly varied diet although obviously it could be better. I did give him probiotics sunchowder after the 2nd set of antibiotics _ I think it's just nursery, he picks up one thing after another.

anyway, he finally went to sleep in DH's arms sitting in the chair. We got to sleep about 2ish and a bl cat woke us up wailing around 4ish - I mean I'm an animal lover and all that but give me strength....

Katierocket,

There is no real right and wrong as such, and its up to you whether you give him vitamin drops..... My 17 month old dd eats a pretty balanced diet too (better than dh and me), but I still give her vitamin supplements over winter because research suggests that vitamin C has a positive effect on colds...I give my dd Haliborange which is in a medicine type bottle and the consistency of medicine, but its just a vitamin tonic rich in vitamin C. Its orange flavoured and she really enjoys it. I pick it up from the 'off the shelf section' of the pharmacy at the supermarket.

I hope your little boy perks up soon
