Sciatica

I have had sciatica for a few years now. Had MRI, and have a slipped disc in my lower back. Have had physiotherapy and have had the nerve root injections which all have helped to an extent.
I find the pain really comes on in my leg when I stand for prolonged periods of time. My leg goes completely numb with pins and needles and is relieved by walking for five minutes. However, the other night I was standing for a while, my leg started to feel numb so decided to walk it off. I couldn't control my leg at all. I must have looked very strange as I tried to get back to my car, my leg was completely out of control. Once I had sat for a while it was fine again.
Do I need to see the dr again? I know the answer is not to stand for too long but sometimes it is unavoidable when talking to people etc.
Any advice gratefully received.

I get chronic Sciatica but I haven't experienced that sensation. I really think you should go back to Doctor just to make sure you are not seriously trapping a nerve or something?

Thanks, yes I did think of that, just thought that if I had seriously trapped a nerve then my leg wouldn't have returned to normal afterwards.

yes you need to be seen again. was the disc prolapsed or torn? if prolapsed it may be protruding further out and rather than irritating a nerve, it may have now trapped it. The loss of control in your leg indicates this might be the case and you need an MRI asap to ascertain if the nerve is being trapped. Long term entrapment can lead to permanent damage.

Are you peeing/using your bowels ok?

The disc was prolapsed. Surely though if it had trapped the nerve then I would have constant loss of control, not only when I was standing for a while.
Everything else is fine, no problems with peeing etc.
Will ring the dr tomorrow, thanks for your advice.

Have you seen a physio?
I had sciatica and leg numbness for four years. Saw orthopaedic consultant, neurologist and 3 different physiotherapists.
No progress.
The last physio I saw noticed I had one leg longer than the other Hmm. How could that happen and how come it started to be a problem in my 40s I asked? Could be childbirth or it may always have been different apparently.
Anyway the up shot is that my right leg is 12mm shorter than the left. A small wedge in my right shoe has given me a 90% improvement.
