Clueless and baffled

Hi everyone :)
For the last month and a half/two months I've been suffering every day with light-headedness, nausea and intense tiredness. It came on one day completely out of the blue and hasn't eased since. In the morning I feel energic and awake, but, ten minutes (roughly) after I've eaten my lunch, whatever it may be and whatever time I eat it (experiments have been undertaken!) I feel incredibly tired, sick and dizzy. The doctor has tested me for diabetes and Celiac's disease as well as looking at my iron levels - none of which seem to be the cause.

He's fobbed me off by telling me he'll review it again in a month if nothing has changed but did take my blood again today to double check his original findings. I'm not a "health worrier" and certainly don't go to the doctor's often but this is concerning me because I know my body and I know this isn't normal for me. Obviously I will be going back in a month's time but in the meantime, has anyone else suffered something similar and had any results back?

I've tried changing my diet by keeping away from certain food types in case of intolerances, eating my lunch at different times and eating different foods, but nothing works. Once I've eaten lunch I have my symptoms throughout the afteroon and evening and can't help but fall asleep in the evenings because staying awake is too much effort.

Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

Alice xx

I concur with the above re pregnancy test.

Otherwise:

  • nervous tension?
  • grumbling appendix?
carben · 11/09/2012 19:03

How do you feel 10 mins after breakfast and dinner. Do you get the same symptoms then ?

narmada · 11/09/2012 22:21

Hypothyroidism ?

WonderlandAlice · 12/09/2012 21:18

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your comments! I'm not pregnant no. Not feeling the same after breakfast, just lunch - no idea why that is though. Sleeping more than I can handle (actually off to bed now!) and my body just craves more. Having bad dreams too in the last couple of days. The dr said my bloods came back clear but I am going back to him, I know something is up! x

I dont know either what it can be.
Have you been incrdibly busy in say the last year?
Also,do you eat lunch in a different physical place to the other meals?
Are you on differnt pills to normal,or having them at different times to normal?

Bilbobagginstummy · 12/09/2012 21:31

Does it help at all if you have a nap after lunch when you start feeling funny?

WonderlandAlice · 12/09/2012 21:41

No less/more busy than normal, really. I've tried to nap at weekends after lunch but when I wake up (or more often, am woken up,) I just feel worse. I've not swapped my pill yet because he wants me to finish this packet, but I take it in the morning just like normal. The only other thing a colleague suggested was hypoglycaemia but I don't know much about that really. I think my blood sugars were fine so probably not that. So frustratingly puzzling! Thank you for all your help! X

sounds a little like ME symptoms .

amillionyears · 12/09/2012 22:10

Have you had a virus in say the last six months
And you didnt say if say you eat lunch somewhere else where environmental factors may come into play.

WonderlandAlice · 13/09/2012 07:07

Nothing other than your standard cough & cold's this year. We've tried everything we can think of including eating lunch in almost every place we can think of but again it makes no difference which is really end infuriating. Just makes me so angry that doctor's seem just to want to fob you off these days. .

Have you had your thyroid hormones tested as part of a full blood count? It's not always done and smetimes has to be requested separately.

amillionyears · 13/09/2012 09:45

If you dont want to wait the month,I suppose you could try and see a different GP in the surgery, though that may not go down well.
Other option would be to go private i guess.
Has the GP looked into your ears
and have you had your eyes tested recently just in case there is a problem there?

TapirBackRider · 13/09/2012 13:38

There is a condition called rebound hypoglycemia that can occur in both diabetic and non diabetics - but in non diabetics means that the body releases too much insulin which results in low blood sugar for a period after eating (esp on high carb meals).

Most blood sugar tests are done after fasting, rather than just after eating - may be worth asking about this?

WonderlandAlice · 13/09/2012 17:51

I've not had any tests done on my thyroid but may well ask about this, thank you. The hypoglycaemia that you mentioned sounds interesting as a possibility, I may purchase a blood sugar testing kit and try this out as I do eat quite a lot of carb-fuelled meals. I will keep you all updated and thanks again for all your help!
