Anyone have horrendous pains mid month?.....................

anniebear · 16/03/2006 20:25

I sometimes have the most terrible pains when I am middle of the month

They are worse than giving birth to twins (although I did have an epidural!!)

It is like someone has shoved knives up me down below, back and front and is twisting and stabbing

The pain is just horrendous

I had one of Tuesday night 7.30 and I could hardly move and had to lie down in bed and just sobbed. The worst pain is for about 15mins, but altogether lasts around 30/35 mins then I am very tender afterwards.

I thought oh well, at least that's it for a few months

Then last night (wed) I woke up at 12.30 in pain which turned to agony. No use getting pain killers as the pain would have got better by the time the tablets worked. I have tried a hot bottle before now but the pressure of it made it worse

I went to the Docs a couple of years ago and she went on and on about it just being ovulation pains and there was nothing they could do

The only thing I thought is that if it is JUST ovulation pains, I must have ovulated twice this month and we could ahve had twins again Shock

I don't know what to do? Any advice?

Should I go back to the Docs? I can't bear the thought of another attack

is their slight pain there throughout the month which just gets worse when you ov? that's what mine was like when i had a cyst. the pain was unbearable, i could hardly walk.

i would get it checked out by your gp as there could be loads of different reasons for it, our bodies are very complicated.

i'm no expert on twins but i heard that the eggs have to be released within 24 hours of one another but that might not be correct.

eemie · 16/03/2006 20:42

I had severe ovulation pain - not as intense as yours but lasting up to 48 hours. Mentioned it to gynaecologist when I was being investigated for recurrent miscarriage. Was (very gently) fobbed off. Found out four years later that it was due to severe endometriosis.

So, definitely, go back to GP and ask for referral. If it is 'just' ovulation pain maybe you need something to suppress ovulation - depends if you're trying for more kids? But if it's endometriosis it might affect your fertility, and is treatable. If I had the chance to turn the clock back I would make a huge fuss until I got a satisfactory answer.

Thanks

couldn't have twins anyway, or any baby!! would be a complete miracle, too shattered lol lol

I do get niggles sometimes but I am not in lots of pain all month and it is not every month. I could go two months without it now

Just this time it was twice and I am terifired of it happening again

Defo no more kids!!! 4 yr old twins one with special needs?!!! I would ahve a hysterectomy tomorrow!!!

Did you have any other symptoms? It's just I don't have this every month

My periods have always been a little funny. sometimes like clock work, but occasionally I would have 2 periods in a month

Had terrible pains when younger, before having children. Do still have period pains but nothing too bad. The middle of the month ones , when I ahve them, are much worse

Just thought if it was something up, I would have other symptoms?

It sounds like you could possibly have endometriosis. I suffer from it and it sounds just like the pains that I suffer. My doctor said years ago that it was "just ovulation pains" but after several years of suffering agony she finally sent me for a scan and a large cyst was found on my ovary. I have since, in the last couple of years had a proper diagnosis. If you are in so much pain it sounds like the cyst is rupturing. I used to get an agonising throbbing in my left side low down as if something was going to explode and it was particularly bad if it started in the middle of the night which for some reason it seemed to do most of the time. Stick to your guns and go to your GP and insist that you get a scan, preferably at that time of the month as the longer you leave it (if it is endometriosis) the worse it can get. Take care, Louise.

Hi louise35

Mind if I ask what happened with your cyst did it go itself or did you have it removed? Dr found a cyst on my left ovary on monday-not sure what to expect

Slink · 16/03/2006 22:22

alliebaba · 16/03/2006 22:26

i think it's called michaelmas syndrome.. pain when laying ones egg

singersgirl · 16/03/2006 22:55

I get quite bad pain every month when ovulating and have also been checked and found cyst-free. Some months it is really bad (painkillers and hot water bottles) and some months it is just a twinge. Don't really know why.

eemie · 16/03/2006 22:57

No other symptoms, just the pain, but it was really incapacitating.

If you are sure you don't want more children then it's good news because you can just take something to stop you ovulating (like the pill). But of course you should talk it over with your doctor first. All the best

anniebear · 17/03/2006 07:07

am on the mini pill at the mo

Yes , I did read on the internet about it, it was a funny name and it was bad pain when ovulating

I just wonder why it doesn't happen every month.

Mittleschmertz (sp?) is the name for ovulation pains.

I get them

MeerkatsUnite · 17/03/2006 07:16

anniebear,

Am sorry to say that mid cycle pain can be symptomatic of endometriosis. I would ask for a referral to a gynae. Don't take your GPs possible no answer for an answer!!.

"ordinary" ovulation pains are called mittelschmertz and are not that severe (can be more like a twinge). They only last a short time.
Ovulation can happen earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle and only one egg is ever released (from the dominant follicle on the ovary). If you are on the mini pill as well then ovulation is suppressed.

Unfortunately an ultrasound scan in itself will not detect endometriosis deposits (unless there is a chocolate cyst on the ovary). Endo is normally diagnosed via a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy.

It is therefore in your interests to get this checked out further.

Blandmum · 17/03/2006 07:23

My ovulation pains are not strong. It almost feels like a 'stretching' stitch.....if that doesn't sound odd!. It is almost as if it is being pulled or stretched, which must be the follicle rupturing I suppose.

It is a 'twinge' and never needs pain killers.

earthtomummy · 17/03/2006 07:24

Anniebear, I get really bad mid month ovulation pains that are def. more than a twinge. It hurts to walk, hurts in my thighs and I feel sick and lousy. It was looked into in my 20s and nothing was found so I got painkillers. It did imoprove when I was on the pill. But since the birth of my 3 rd baby the pain is terrible again. I do sympathise because it's miserable, isn't it. But I'd go and see your GP if I were you or a Well woman clinic or something to get it checked out.

MrsBigD · 17/03/2006 08:30

annniebear, I also get Mittelschmerz and then the pain just continues...

Defo go and try being referred. Be stubborn! Could be Endomitriosis. That's what they suspect with me now anyhow... it took me 6 months of constant visits to the GP to be referred to a gyno (which took another 6 months to get an appointment!) jammering on about in how much pain I am after ovulating until my period comes!

Also I had something like you describe yonks ago... had severe clamydia and candida and cysts. Have you been checked for any infections?

God I sound like a constant case history! ShockBlush

Hope you feel better soon

alliebaba · 17/03/2006 09:15

got the name wrong... dr mentioned it years ago.. i'm a tit :)

MrsBigD · 17/03/2006 09:21

Alliebaba... I can see how you can derive at michaelmas from Mittelschmerz... if pronounced the German way it might sound like michaelmas to an English trained ear :)

If there was a problem, don't you think I would get it every month?

I could go 3 months without, then have a really bad one

looks like other people have got there first. I get mid month pains too - my doctor told me it is mittelsmertz. They vary in intensity from mild discomfort, through bed with a hot water bottle and pain killers to being rushed to A&E.

I was told that some people have pain when the egg is released, full stop.

I hoped it might have its advantages - knowing when I was ovulating should aid conception! But unfortunately the pain comes at different points in the actual ovulation for different people - and for me the pain was always after - a little too late!

At least I know which ovary my ds' come from!

anniebear · 17/03/2006 13:03

I have the pain all over though, not just one side

like I am being stabbed up my back and front right up and deep inside both sides

but not every month!
