Bad hearing?? :(

I was out last night for a meal. Busy restaurant but no loud music. I realised that I was getting about one word in six of what was said at the table. I have always been a bit like this (could never have a conversation in a club when I was younger) but I am sure it's getting worse - I'm 45. Anyone else have the same issue where background noise really interferes with your hearing ability? I'm OK 1-2-1

Im sorry you're feeling worried about this.

I scared myself a week or two ago when I couldn't hear a word on the telly. Music, yes, conversation, no.

I realised after fiddling with the settings that ds had somehow changed it to bass boost! Which meant you could hear the background music but nothing else.
Since changing it back I have had no problems - but it really worried me for a while especially as my Mum's hearing is going.

I wonder if you can get a hearing test done somewhere? It might set your mind at rest x

I have that problem too, was so worried in my late teens that I had my hearing tested which was absolutely fine.

Recently spoke to a friend who has exactly the same problem. She was tested recently and again no problem with her hearing, but there was an issue with her auditory processing.

I wonder if I, and you, have the same problem.

Get your ears tested (and checked for wax) though.

I had my ears tested a few years ago because of similar problems and was told that I have a few frequencies missing. If I am somewhere with a lot of background noise I tell people that I'm slightly deaf so that they don't think I'm being rude! I also have to turn up the volume on the TV and phone.

Restaurants are the worst places for me as they tend to be loud, often have background music and the sound echos so much that it gets distorted.

It's worth getting your hearing tested - many opticians do it free.

I've just discovered that there's a free hearing test on the Action for Hearing website. Sorry I can't post a link to it.

Get your ears tested. I experienced similar and turned out I had a problem that needed dealing with, got it sorted and can now hear perfectly.
