Bubble bath for sensitive skin

RedRidingHood · 16/03/2006 11:44

Dd has started getting eczema on her elbow creases. Am currently using Johnsons Baby bath and have always done so.

Have they changed the formula does anyone know?

Any other suggestions?

She loves the bubbles so would love to keep her in bubble bath not just a bath milk.

A friend of mine recommended \link{http://www.halogb.co.uk\Halos and Horns} (you can get it at Tescos). Her ds gets eczema and this is what she uses when he has bubbles (his eczema isn't particularly bad though).

Thanks have seen it about - will go and try it :)

We use an E45 half bubble bath / half bath oil type of thing although the bubbles don't last very long but ds only needs a quick play in the water to get clean.

He is 3 and has only just started getting a little bit of eczema but I know from my own experience that this is a bad time of year for it. Chilly weather outdoors and drying central heating indoors.

Thanks - love the name btw!

My dd had very sensitive skin when she was younger. I used to use one specifically for exzema (had an elephant on the front and was quite expensive - available in Boots). I think the Body Shop did a kids strawberry one which she was ok with. Infacol was ok too or Boots ones for newborns. I avoided the usual baby baths (like J&J) as I found them too highly perfumed for her.

I now use \link{http://avonshop.co.uk/avonshop/default.asp?line_id=37&department=fastfind&src_page=random_product_list.asp\this} - the conditioning body wash for myself and also ds as we both get eczema (me more than ds). It makes bubbles even though its not a bubble bath.

katyp · 16/03/2006 12:09

infaderm is the other one I'm thinking of (doesn't have an elephant on the front any more!)

HappyMumof2 · 16/03/2006 12:37

I use Boots Sensitive Skin Top to Toe wash on my kids. It's fragrance free and soap free.

Heathcliffscathy · 16/03/2006 12:40

organic babies lavender bath wash...the bubble agent is corn iirc and there is no crap at all whatsoever in it. you can get it from waitrose or greenbaby.com

Clure · 05/04/2006 20:31

My health visitor recommended not using any type of bubble bath (deffo not johnsons, have you read the ingredients?!) She recommended an emolient called hydromol for the bath and a gentle rub of olive oil on skin

intergalacticwalrus · 05/04/2006 20:32

I'll recommend Halos and Horns too!

tissy · 05/04/2006 20:37

RRh, you don't say how old your dd is, but I would recommend cutting out the bubbles ALTOGETHER until the skin is back to normal, then very gently introducing either Organic Baby or H and H bath products. My dd has eczema (mildish at present), and is OK with these 2, but she only gets bubbles once a week, and is showered or rinsed down when she stands up, as well.

Johnsons baby bath CAUSED my dd's eczema, I'm sure of it. Dreadful stuff!

Clure · 05/04/2006 20:37

Just looked at the halo's and horns weblink. Looks really nice stuff

Carameli · 06/04/2006 12:43

my dd(now 2.5) has had a real problem with cradle cap for quite a while now. She also started getting slight redness, like v. mild eczema in her elbow creases.

Like you Redridinghood I had been using Johnsons products, thinking they would be mild.

I then came across Halos and Horns and its worked like magic for her. She shampoos are also lovely to the extent that dd now loves washing her hair:-)

biggirl · 06/04/2006 12:51

johnson baby bath is the worse you can use for sensitive skin - let alone eczema... ive been using Simple for babies

MrsDoolittle · 06/04/2006 12:58

I am also convinced Johnsons caused eczema on my dd

MrsDoolittle · 06/04/2006 12:58

Halo and Horns and Waitrose baby bath

MrsDoolittle · 06/04/2006 13:00

btw It's sodium laureth sulphate that creates so many bubbles - so any product without it is going to have less bubbles. SLS is horrible stuff.

PutAPeachyInYourSimnelCake · 06/04/2006 13:36

There's another thread going on this recently?

worst I have used is Asda sensitive or Johnson. best I have tried amazingly is called baby mild dermatological with chamomile. 80p in Lidls- and none of us reacted to it!! Shock

Blackduck · 06/04/2006 13:42

Anything in the Little Me range (available in Boots - no SLS) Horns and Halos I found too perfumed...

ButterflyInGlassMaze · 06/04/2006 17:35

My son suffered very badly with eczema since birth. He's now 7 and and has thankfully grown out of it.
I found Infacare was the best bubble bath/wash for him. I used to buy it from Bodycare at a reasonable price. Didn't irritate his skin at all like many of the other brands.
All the best.

fishie · 06/04/2006 17:37

the lavender stuff recommended by sophable currently 3 for 2 at waitrose.

Clure · 06/04/2006 19:50

We use baby organic range and earth friendly baby range which is from a great website called greenbaby.co.uk they're a bit pricey but last ages they have no nasties in them

Latz · 06/04/2006 19:57

Have changed my name again! Oops
Have binned the Johnsons, Infaderm and Halos and Horns helped a bit but not wonderful.

Will definately look for the Lidl one.

Dd is 2.6 btw.

Thanks

We use Jasons bodywash with glycerine and rosewater which I get from the local health shop it's lovely it's about £6.50 for a big squirty bottle and it also makes bubbles. Last for yonks dH, DS and I use it everyday, you only need a little bit, Well worth every penny.
