Mental health issue or something else?

Hi, this is a bit vague and a bit long so bear with me.

We have a good family friend (G) who doesn't have any close family (only one elderly cousin miles away) who is unwell. Around four weeks ago she became very confused and apparently started to slur her speech and walk to one side. She was taken to hospital and checked for a stroke amongst other things (not sure what exactly as because we are only friends we are limited on information and G is not very clear herself at the moment). She had scans and everything came back clear. Her speech and walking was back to normal and she was no longer confused, however several days after being discharged she became very paranoid and convinced that someone was trying to get her. She also became convinced that she was contaminated with something and that she had killed someone. One of her friends took her in because she wasn't coping on her own and she was refusing to leave the house.
The situation did not improve over several weeks and after going back and forth to the hospital a and e she has finally been admitted to a mental health ward.

However we are concerned that this may not be a mental health issue. She speaks of having a head ache and a pressure in her head in the mornings after getting up and is sometimes confused. She is more paranoid and anxious in the morning too. As the day goes on she improves and by evening is much better. We are wondering if this might be caused by something akin to a stroke.

We are worried that she won't get any better if she isn't getting the right treatment, however because we are it family we are limited as to what information we get. G is never very pushy at the best of times and we are concerned that not much is being done. She is 60 by the way.

I hope people don't mind me posting here, I just wondered if anyone had any experience of anything similar?

Thanks
