Have had ongoing probs with my cycles for last few years (am 43) but decided only this year to find out what's going on, bleeding between periods, and usually bleed for around 3 weeks out of 4.
Had a scan earlier this year which revealed a "shadow" sonographer didn't know what it was? and the usual cysts on my left ovary (have had them asperated before when i had ep)
I was referred to gynae, had my first app couple of weeks ago, i went armed with my cycles and "non" cycle bleeding back to the beginning of 2011. he did internal exam and had a look using one of the smear things.
As a result i have to have a hysteroscopy and biopsy's done on Tuesday afternoon, and i have to be awake! Am totally freaked out by this. He said i'll be fine because i've had children.
So please tell me it'll be okay i plan to take a couple of painkillers before i go! Any other tips i might find helpful? I wasn't given any information on it so not sure of exactly what they're going to do, re freezing the area, and i read about filling the womb with gas or liquid? to get a better view, if its liquid do they take it out after? Also will they tell me anything there and then? I know biopsy's can take a couple of weeks but am guessing an experienced doctor can probably tell if its anything "serious".
Have also been to my gp for pills to stop my bleeding because i really didn't want to be for the appointment and she was happy to prescribe some which seem to be working ok.
My follow up appointment isn't til November they're very busy.
TIA x

I had a hysteroscopy pre-DD at 41, three years ago.

It was completely painless.

The doc inserted a Speculum and a very thin canula, through which he put some bubbly liquid whilst scanning me. He was able to tell me thee and then what he could see.

I should add - I have had smear tests that were more painful.
