Where have my fibroids gone? Any ideas anyone?

The relationship I have had with 2 fibroids ever since carrying my children has been one of mutual respect. Over the years (DCs 12 & 9) they have been seen lurking in the background on a number of scans I have had due to intermittent spotting. They waved, I waved back.

In March this year I had another scan as my 3 monthly cycle (am nearing menopuase) bleed lasted on and off for 4 weeks. In late March, my womb (bless it) was measured as uniformly thick and my 2 fibroids, though everso slightly smaller, were still happily nestling there. My GP referred me for further investigation and I went for my NHS gynae appointment on friday last week.

I had another scan. My womb lining is thin again now (had a period in early April). However, it would appear I may have a polyp and have been referred for a hysteroscopy Sad . My long time companions however seem to have completely disappeared Confused. Anybody got any ideas?

FWIW, fridays internal scan took no longer than 2 minutes, there was mention of polyp and fluid and 'can see no fibroids'. A bit worried tbh.

I believe the start of the menopause & the fluctuation/reduction in hormone levels can mean they reduce to nothing.

I'm mid 40's & had a huge fibroid- I was given the option of waiting to see if when menopause started it shrank, or a hysterectomy. I opted for the latter as I couldn't wait potentially years, to feel better.

They are I believe, fuelled by hormones & fibroids post menopause are therefore uncommon.

Hope the polyp turns out to be OK, but looks like you might have had a result with your fibroids!

Thanks, reassuring to hear. Amazing how quickly they have disappeared. I was kind of hoping they may have temporarily disguised themselves as a polyp but quiet hopes dashed....not entirely unexpected I hate, hate, hate hospitals although I know they do good. Irrational. Hat tip to all nurses and docs.
