CIN2 - Help!!

I had a Colposcopy a month ago and have just received the results that it is CIN2 and I will need a Lletz procedure (booked for October). I just want to know if anyone has been in this situation / through this and come out OK?

I am now really worrying it's cancer and they've missed it (probably not but you know how the mind races...) or that it will be cancer by October.

Also i have one DD but would like another and we hoped to think about that early next year. Does anyone have experience of how long the Lletz takes to recover from? How painful is it?

I guess on the up side i'm glad it's been found.

Don't panic. I have been there, been through it and since had one child and have another on the way. After the procedure, your cervix will heal and you'll be good as new. Not sure about the length of recovery, but sure you can resume sex within a month or two. It's mildly painful, and you'll need to rest the day it's done and you will bleed a bit, but it's a couple of days discomfort in exchange for knowing your cancer risk cells have been removed.

I remember how upsetting it all was at the time, but honestly, I look back at it now as a very small event in my life. You've already been through some of the worst just having the colposcopy.

Here if you need any hand holding. X

Thank you, that has helped already! I know it's better to get it sorted out sooner rather than later.

I had CIN 3 some years ago. It is all quite straightforward although felt terrifying at the time. The word cancer always is - I remember being told that if I didn't get it sorted it meant that the chances of getting cancer in 20 years was much higher. So whilst scary, that helped me realise that it wasn't as serious as I thought!

The procedure was fine, I bled a bit and took a couple of days off work. I advised not to try to conceive for 6 months. I have to have annual smears for 10 years (which I look at as a good thing). Good luck with it all.

Hi k4mi
You might find this website useful. It's the colposcopy society with information about CIN and it's treatment.
They give a local anaesthetic so it shouldn't really hurt but may feel uncomfortable. I'd suggest getting a lift or taxi home rather than bus/train/driving and taking it easy for a couple of days.
There's also Jo's trust forum which is for women and their families with pre-cancerous changes and cancer - which can be a source of support.

I had CIN3 in 2008 and had the LLETZ procedure. It made us realise that we really wanted to TTC. The doctor said there was no reason to wait once it was comfortable, so we tried after a few weeks. 3 months later I was pregnant! No problems with the pregnancy at all.

I had a follow up colposcopy whilst pregnant where they just had a look, then a biopsy a few months after which was clear. They also tested for HPV and as I was negative, I am now under normal 3 yearly cycles.

Don't worry, it's not really painful. There are no nerve endings on the cervix, apparently. I had the LLETZ procedure following a CIN III diagnosis, then went on to have DD & DS and had nothing but clean smear tests since then.

It's nothing more than having a dodgy mole taken out. Good luck.
