All dentists should carry the "non-adrenaline" anaesthetic as the one with adrenaline is contra-indicated to patients on certain medication etc.

noddyholder · 14/03/2006 19:52

Thanks CM I wonder why he has never told me about it esp as i have had a few funny spells following it and this has made me terrified of dentists! If he has that I will be over the moon as I know I don't have to have that dizziness.I had a tooth filled once as an emergency last year as I was going on holiday and i fainted and still they didn't suggest it Weird

I would be very very surprised if your dentist does not have the non adrenaline local. I used it in a number of patients who had similar problems to yourself and would often use it in patients with heart problems as a matter of course. Your body will produce some adrenaline itself when you are stressed (which is another side effect for many people of visiting the dentist). Try and stay as calm as possible.
Fainting is quite common in dental surgeries and is more likely if you have not had food prior to your appointment. Make sure you have breakfast tomorrow as you probably will not want to eat for a couple of hours after your appointment. Don't worry. You will be fine and I hope all goes well for you

Think calm! Smile

sweetkitty · 15/03/2006 08:00

hi noddyholder I can completely sympathise with you I am going to the dentist tomorrow for some fillings I am terrified. Last time I had any work done I was sedated and it was great but this time I am BFing so can't be sedated. For me it's the drill it is so barbaric in this day and age to numb someone's face then drill into their head, sorry Blush.

Am really annoyed though as everyone keeps saying "it's for your own good" and "it's only the dentist" I honestly would rather have another baby.

noddyholder · 15/03/2006 09:35

Couldn't have the tooth out as it wouldn't numb due to a granuloma(?)at the base He has now decided to refer me to hospital as he says they have different drugs and methods

OP posts:
LadySherlockofLGJ · 15/03/2006 09:37

And how long is a referral going to take ??

CHICagoMUM · 15/03/2006 11:02

Sorry to hear you had no luck this morning noddy.
A granuloma is a mass of granulation tissue fromed in response to a chronic infection, inflammation or forgein body. In other words you have has a long term low grade infection associated with this tooth and as a result a mass of cells has developed at the tip of the root. This is preventing the local annaesthatic from working so the dentist couln't effectively numb the tooth.

Blu · 15/03/2006 11:10

Oh no! Bad luck, Noddyholder. I hope it gets sorted soon. Sad

noddyholder · 15/03/2006 11:13

I have no idea re times although he says he is sending a letter as urgent this morning so I am praying tbh.I am dosed up again with dihydrocodeine which I hate He had to inject right inside the tooth to try and numb it and I screamed and cried I feel so stupid but the pain was like nothing I have ever had so am hoping they knock me out at the hospital i can't take much more Dp has the day off work today thsnk god so I am going to sleep for a while xxx

spidermama · 15/03/2006 11:14

Sad Oh no noddy. I'm so sorry. This has been running on and on for you hasn't it? Surely they'll have to get a move on.

Yorkiegirl · 15/03/2006 11:14

some dental hospitals have emergency treatment... could you ring and find out if you could go?
Sorry you couldn't have it done.

CHICagoMUM · 15/03/2006 11:22

When I've had to refer someone in this position, I generally phone rather than write and they are generally seen in a couple of days. Perhaps it may be worth phoning the surgery and seeing if the dentist could phone the oral surgery department for you?

noddyholder · 15/03/2006 11:24

I was thinking that i will do it now and hope he can phone for me.

OP posts:
Blu · 15/03/2006 11:30

yes, try that.
poor you, this sounds horrendous.

louise35 · 15/03/2006 20:11

So sorry to hear that your treatment did not go ahead, it would have all been over and done by now. It can't be easy for you, it will be hanging over you now until its sorted which is not going to help you at all. I just hope that they get you sorted out asap and everything works out fine for you. Take care, louise.
