DD has a rash. Saw nurse practitioner who has prescribed fexofenadine 30mg twice a day.

She has enough tablets for 30 days. Surely that's way too much. If I don't give them I would expect the rash to be gone within 3-4 days (this is a recurring problem).

WWYD? I'm thinking take them until rash is gone as its not like they are anti-biotics.

Your dd won't need 30 days worth. My dd was prescribed a bottle of anti histamines for slapped cheek syndrome I just gave her it until symptoms went away. We still have most of the bottle left. I would only take the tablets until symptoms go away (couple of days max.)

Maybe they gave you more in case she gets the rash again. It is def not like antibiotics where you take the whole course.

She's just given you enough tablets so that you don't have to visit the doctor every time she gets it (if you are confident it's the same problem, ofc.)

Thanks. Glad you are of the same opinion.

If she gets it again we have to go back - presumably to try and start working out what the allergic trigger is, but at least they won't need to be re-prescribed.

I have gluten intolerance. My reactions are swollen red eyes and a large area of urticaria that goes from my throat to my breast bone. When I had all my tests, the dermatologist told me this was typical reaction in children on gluten intolerance but rarely in adults.

Hmm....interesting.

Her rash was literally from her collar bone down to the tips of her toes last time and most of her body this time.

BUT she eats bread most days and this rash has only twice to date, but both in the last month. I am going to keep an eye and keep a bit of a mental diary of what she is eating when. At the moment there is a tentative link with chinese takeaway, but would need to test again I think.....hmm...
