I'm having both tomorrow afternoon. Does anyone know what the recovery period is? Will I be ok for work the next day?

If it's the same procedure that DH has had twice, then within a couple of hours!

He had the prep for 24 hours before, had the procedure at amount 12'ish and he was up and gagging for food by 2pm!

Good luck. It's not a pleasant thing, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Smile

Ask them to sedate you, you'll thank me later. Wink You should be up and around within a couple of hours. Smile

Thanks. Sedation is top of my list! I've had a gastroscopy before when I was pregnant and that was fine. They gave me Valium and I have no memory of the procedure at all. I'm hoping the worst thing about the colonoscopy is the prep meds I've taken. Seems to be a quick way to lose weight.

They don't make you lose weight, they just tie you to the toilet for a while. I mixed mine with cordial, it made it more bearable. Don't worry, it will be fine. Smile

Surely I will lose weight if my innards are empty? There has to be some benefit to all this Shock

But you'll be starving by the time you come out, having not eaten for 24 hours, so you'll replace lost calories! Grin

Oh and you will experience some mild wind! Grin

LadySybildeChocolate · 27/08/2012 19:58

Erm...no. You're only cleaning out your bowel, like a colonic irrigation just starting in the opposite end. It's the fat cells which make you put on weight.

bisjolympics · 27/08/2012 20:01

Will my windy pops have gone in time for my commute the next day? Could be a bit embarrasing otherwise (or maybe I'll get a different train from normal).

They should have, they usually start about an hour after you start drinking the bowel prep/picolax. You stop drinking it once your poop is clear like water and there's no bits of poop.

Glad that's all over. Didn't like the colonscopy one bit even with sedation it seemed incredibly painful. I wonder if they didn't give me much sedation as I said that no one could collect me from the ward (which they didn't like at all). I got a lift home but as my mum is disabled she wasn't able to walk the acres of corridor to collect me. In any event everything was normal, which is good, but doesn't make me feel any better phsyically.

One good thing is I appear to have lost 3.5 lbs overnight. I assume that will change once I start eating again.

At least it's over now. I hope all is well x

Hi guys, do they tell you straight away what the problem is? Got mine in 2 weeks and really hoping they will find something they can fix to cure my loose bms/feacal incontinence (TMI sorry)as this is making me so miserable.

Snowfire · 10/09/2012 22:27

Hi Monica,
They should tell you what they find before you go home. The only thing they can't tell you for a while is the histology results of any samples they take.
Good luck, hope it goes well for you!
