Shall I bother going to see GP about cough?

I can't believe I'm thinking about seeing GP for a cough but this is the worst one I've ever had.
Developed after a bit of a cold as usual but 2 weeks later it's really getting me down. Coughing up brown/green phelgm, but regularly coughing so much I gag/vomit. Which is embarrassing in public! Audible wheeze in chest. No temp, feel a bit breathless but then I'm 17 wks preg so that's not helping.
Will this pass do u think or do I need abx?

Go and see your GP. They usually say to pop in if a cough hasn't gone in 3 weeks, brown/green phelgm sounds like an infection to me though.

I have exactly the same thing. Going on three weeks now, but not pregnant.

not to worry you, but my mum had a cough that made her vomit, which turned out to be whooping cough, which she's now had since February Sad. Go to the GP and get checked out.

Thank you all.
Whooping cough had already crossed my mind actually as I'm in Hampshire and it's all over news about the 'epidemic' here - and I have a germ fest toddler too.. Pretty sure it's not that though...

We've all got/had this to some extent this month (except my youngest so I'm assuming she's still protected) I'm considering we've all got whooping cough but looking up about it, by the time the real coughing starts, it's too late for anti-biotics. Is that right? I've honestly thought as I lay in bed pretending to sleep that dp was about to choke to death, his coughing and breathing was so bad.

Been to GP this morning as I coughed up some blood. Got some abx for a chest infection. He never mentioned whooping cough... I also coughed so much I vomited in his room. The shame.

Oh dear! Still, best place for it. Grin Hope they work for you soon

brown/green sputum (phlegm) indecates a possible infection. Take a specimin in a clean containder- gross i know but A) the colour will make GP take it seriously and B) he may want to send it off for culturing to see what antibiotic it is sensitive to. Benelyn is great for symptomatic relief too.

SwedishEdith · 30/08/2012 22:29

How are you feeling now Icould? Coughing going on in 3 different rooms here...

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 31/08/2012 07:59

Thank you for asking Swedish - still a bit shitty tbh.
I was a bit over-sensistive, shall we say, to the first lot of antib so on another lot now. Not the dramamtic improvement I was hoping for. Still vomiting with it but only at night now....
I know everyone says this when you have something but there really does seem to be a lot of bad chests around at the moment.
Hope your house improves soon....
And boy, I really need to do some pelvic floor exercises Blush

Poor you. dp was up in the night coughing/whooping and vomiting as well - which woke evereyone else to take theirtrun of coughing. It's like having a baby in the house again with the exhaustion. Are you working? How are you managing?

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 31/08/2012 13:01

Yeah i'm working, only PT though thank goodness.I'm a MW and had a lovely shift yesterday coughing over all the pregnant ladies - bet they are delighted. I'm no longer infectious though - I have checked!
I'm managing as DS still has afternoon nap so i've been joining him...
But I have a 15 hour shift tomorrow to look forward to

You have my utmost sympathy
