After-effects of allergic reaction to antibiotics

Have just posted in Style & Beauty on vaguely related topic, but thought I'd ask for people's experiences here from a more health-related angle.

A few months ago I had an allergic reaction to antibiotics. It went on for several days (sunburn-like rash everywhere) because when I rang NHS Direct (weekend) to ask if this might possibly be a reaction, they said it was normal side effects, so kept taking them. Eventually my lips started swelling up and tingling, so I spoke to a pharmacist who said to stop immediately. The rash continued for a few more days, and then it was all fine again. Obviously I know now not to take them ever again as next reaction could be more severe.

Afterwards though I noticed some strange things, and I wonder if they could be related: I felt a bit groggy for quite a while, and now applying foundation with my usual brush makes my face red and blotchy when the same combination has been fine for years, but same foundation applied with a different brush is fine.

What was also strange is that my period arrived several days early after the reaction when it used to be extremely regular, and since then my cycle length has been slightly erratic. It only ranges from 24 to 33 days, which I think is in the normal range, so not too worrying on the whole, but it did make me wonder if it can be linked to the allergic reaction.

Has anyone else had strange goings-on after a reaction to antibiotics?

your body is going to be on high alert over senistive for quite some time. you had quite a severe reaction esp if it took several days to gain some control. your symptoms listed werent mild at all!
I take it you have been to the gp to get some advice? often one type of allergy means other stuff MAY be an issue for you.

do you have other allergy issues, such as hay fever, dustmite allergy, etc?

cant advise you on the period stuff, but certainly any severe illness can change the normal pattern of things.

Oh no, didn't realise that was severe as I didn't have any breathing trouble. I went to the out of hours clinic who suggested antihistamines, but I didn't take them as didn't want to risk breastfeeding issues (I know antihistamines are fine usually but I thought I wasn't tooo unwell, so would just get through the itchiness on my own, plus didn't want to get drowsy.)

Could you tell me what other things could potentially be an issue? I do have hayfever and dustmite allergy.
