DD has this quite badly. GP prescribed some cream but it was so greasy and smelt horrible that she didn't use it.
Anyone found anything that improves this condition??

Lots of previous threads here about KP. I think creams containing Urea were generally found to help - flexitol heel stuff rings a bell, have a play with advanced search Smile

Thanks Moaning, have found a couple of ideas to try.

My DD suffers with this - a holiday in the sun cleared it up completely but I expect it will be back. Meanwhile we found Dove Intensive Moisturising Cream is excellent if used every night - it's the white bottle with dark red writing.

My DH has this, and I suspect that our dds are starting to get it. With DH, sun is the one thing that helps, but he is not bothered by it so would never use creams. I think exfoliation helps too.

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 25/08/2012 19:42

I have it too, not tried the creams and exfoliation makes little to no difference for me, but a sunny holiday does clear it up a lot.

Not had a sunny holiday for several years though Grin

Both myself and my ds1 have this and for each of us it was dietary changes that cleared it up.

Ds1 no longer has gluten. He tested negative via bloods for coeliacs but has documented/recorded severe reactions to gluten containing foods. He had KP on his upper arms and face and it disappeared within weeks of removing gluten from his diet.

For me. I get KP on my upper arms and thighs. Last year I went on a diet and completely cut out sugar, high fat and processed food. Within weeks my KP had gone and it didn't come back until I fell off the dieting wagon. Blush I have been ill this year and subsequently gained back about a stone and half of the 3.5 stone I lost. I have been eating chocolate, cake, processed foods etc again and my KP is back with a vengeance.

While I was typing this I just had a thought that the only other thing ds1 and I have in common diet-change wise is that we both started taking high strength omega oil at around the time we changed our diets. I had stop taking it because I can't afford to buy it for myself and the dcs, but ds still has it.

Thinking about it he had a resurgence of KP on his face at the start of the summer, which actually coincided with us running out of oil whilst waiting for a delivery. I assumed he'd been 'glutened', but am now wondering if it was actually due to stopping the omega oil.

Cradle cap treatment left overnight.
Then wash off.
I have an Avene one I bought in France after reading about it.

ingletina · 26/08/2012 20:37

I have this too.
Sunshine helps.
Have heard diet changes help too but haven't had enough discipline as yet.
Doc will sometimes give me steroid cream because I scratch at it and then it scabs and scars.
Homeopath told me that taking zinc and vit B would help.

Flexibility or the boots own version sorts it out within weeks. It is very greasy/sticky though, so you need to be prepared to put up with that. I put it on at night and there was a noticeable improvement within days.

Flexitol!

My DD had the same problem - on the advice of Mumsnetters we started using Eucerin (dry skin) lotion (from Boots, in the moisturiser section) which has 10% Urea as the active ingredient. We apply it before bed, and it's absorbed by the skin quickly and doesn't smell. 7 months later her arms are completely clear (tho it started to improve within a month). Never tried exfoliation or exposure to sun or change in diet.
