has the pharmacist got my instructions wrong?

i got results back for a skin swab of some really bad eczema today and it was positive. The GP called me to give me the results and tell me that he was going to give me some antibs for it and I just had to go and pick up the prescription. He told me to take a double dose for each of the four daily doses in the first 24 and then to take a single dose for each of my daily doses for the rest of the week.

I have got 32 tablets which makes sense. But the pharmacist label says to take two tablets every day until the course is finished. But then the course would only be for 4 days! And I was under the impression a skin infection in particular would require a longer course.

So, shall I just go with what the GP said? I should shouldn't I...

I think you should ring the GP and confirm it - that way you can tell him what the pharmacist has put on the label.

Hope you get it sorted, eczema is a real nuisance. I get it when stressed and have a huge patch on my back at the moment.

But it is the bank holiday. I'm going to take them as the doctor recommended as 24 h of the higher dose has made me feel very very wierd. Major cramps and feeling weirdly empty. Dp can gear my stomach churning from the other side of the room. Hopefully lower dose will make me feel less weird.

Go with what your GP said. As I'm sure you know many doctors have poor handwriting and pharmacists have a hard enough time deciphering the drug let alone instructions how to take them.

Flucloxicillin?

Follow what GP said.

2 tablets a day would last longer than 4 days. You have 32 tablets, that would be 8 (4x2=8).

It's erythromycin. The dr said he would give me the lower dose (1 pill) to avoid side effects. It us one pill four times a day so times seven is twenty eight. Plus the four extra ones today. Sorry if that's confusing. I think the pharmacist might have printed out a generic label as the prescription only gave the number of pills and strength with no instructions.
