Nemo1977 · 13/03/2006 09:00

am going to see hv about dd reflux and going to tackle the eczema while there. I have tried grape seed oil, and on gps suggestion, e45 junior, oilatum, sudocrem and vaseline. It is on her face and looks quite painful. So what should I ask for???

savlon has always worked well on mine and dd's excema on our faces

My dd has eczema but not on her face, hers is triggered my stress (its worst when she's teething) and tomatoes. I use double base on her about 4 times a day to keep her skin lovely and mositured and junior oilatuim in the bath and she has hydrocoistone cream the very weakest at 0.5% just on the ecemeza itself. I was very wary about useing that as it is a steroid cream but as the docs told me it is so weak and it is better than her iching it and getting an infection. But the docs might not recomend for your dd as its on her face.

Good Luck Smile

Aveeno cream is great.

Hi
hv has made appointment to see gp as she thinks dd needs hydrocortisone cream as it is quite inflamed. She is only 3mths and keeps scratching it so it is a little infected. She wears gloves and mittens but is still managing to scratch with the mitts on..bless her.

Oh bless her heart. Hydrocortisone cream is good stuff though I use it very sparingly and when she has a flare up I use it twice a day and its gone in a couple of days. Ask for some heavy moisturing cream aswell though as thats the key to managing it and as I said I religiouly massage my dd with it 4 times a day.

Hope it clears up soon. Smile

hi my boy suffers really badley with eczema and i have found that hydramol ointment is really good hope that helps

emmawill · 14/03/2006 12:23

Nemo1977 - we used aquenous cream to begin with but advised that not all doctors think its situatable for babies, so changed to double base (not sure if you get it off prescription) thats fabulous stuff, used hydramol too thats a bit like vaseline a bit messier. Both can be used as an oilatum for the bath aswell instead of using soap.

sanchpanch · 14/03/2006 12:39

we have oilatum in bath, then apply double base, i get it on prescription, lovely big one, with dispensing spout so its easy to use, they told me to apply it like your stroking a cat, and not to rub it in....

both my boys had eczema up until around 7 months old. i tried everything but ended up using Elena Schalburg cream, you can find it online. It is natural and worked for ds1 (although some poeple say the almond oil in it can irritate). another natural one to try is Pure Potions - in a blue pot, very greasy heavy cream but very effective. it won best alternative eczema treatment last year (or something like that).
then for ds2 we ended up using diprobase (an emolient i got on prescription) and that seems to moisturise his skin well and stop him itching.
good luck, it is really hard to see their skin so raw and sore. hopefully it will go at some stage.

Nemo1977 · 14/03/2006 12:48

Thanks all...am trying to remember the names of all of these lotions and potions..lol Until I see the GP have just been sticking with the grapeseed oil and the oilatum although neither is making a blind bit of difference.Sad Poor DD hates having her hands in the mitts aswell but its the only thing I can do to stop it getting any worse.

Oh poor little love [sad. Hopefully you get a good supply of difference oilments from your docs and then hopefully it will clear up quickly and then it will be a matter of managing it, keeping the skin mositured is the key thing. Babies skin is so delicate a lot of the time they will grow out of ecemeza (I'm hoping). Now my dd I'm finding triggers that I have to stay clear of. I mean you could change your washing powder I guess but when my dd developed at 6 weeks old we did that and it didn't make any difference.

Hope she gets better soon. Smile

Nemo1977 · 14/03/2006 13:40

Is it likely to be washing powder related if the worst affected area is her face?

OP posts:
emmawill · 14/03/2006 13:46

No it probaby isn't but it could be worth ruling out. My dd has it mainly on her turso and that isn't related to washing powder. I was advised to make sure as when there so young their skin can react to anything from the outside world. I used to write everything down especially when I started weaning her to see if there was any triggers.

Nemo1977 · 16/03/2006 15:38

stupid dr am not impressed. He gave me oilatum again and cream oilatum, also sent me to the hospital in regards to reflux...arghhh
