DD had them, I am bfing DD2 so can't take the medicine. what can I do?

I have just scrubbed myself clean, but still feel disgusting.

Begonia, that's nothing. The worst is when you go to pick your DS up from after school club and he announces in a loud voice so that everyone can hear, "Have your worms gone now Mummy?"

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 22/08/2012 11:45

Pripsen tablets and pripsen powder are different iirc.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 22/08/2012 11:46

A quick google suggest Lloyds might stock Pripsen powder.

BegoniaBigtoes · 22/08/2012 11:47

Fluffy, oh no! Shock :o

I'm sure it's just a matter of time. That's EXACTLY the kind of thing my DS would say (at full volume).

What you can do at night time is to wash (shallow bath or shower) put a load of vaseline, sudocreme, or any nappy rash cream up and around your bottom (stops them laying eggs) and wear tight fitting pants to bed.

In the morning remove pants and put in a hot wash, bath again and make sure fingernails are clean and short.

Repeat for every family member.

I also agree with the poster who said the worst part is having to wash all bedding/towels etc.

FushiaFernica · 22/08/2012 12:00

I used to want worms when I was younger as heard you could eat loads of food and not gain weight. Nowadays I would be like you about it cheddar, all the cleaning etc.

I've decided to risk the ovex, can't find anywhere locally that will give me the other stuff without a prescription.
Dd2 will have to survive without milk from me for 12 hours, I'm sure she'll cope, and it's a good excuse for dh to do bedtime Wink

Dh took the girls in today and asked about me, according to our doc ovex is fine for anyone over 6m, just has to be prescribed. So worry over nothing, hopefully we'll be free of them soon!

Hi, here is the info from the prescribing information for pripsen and Ovex

Piperazine is excreted in breast milk but no unwanted effects in the infant have been reported. To minimize the amount of Piperazine ingested by the baby, it is recommended that the infant be fed immediately before taking Pripsen, then allow eight hours before breast feeding is resumed. During this 8 hour period, milk should be expressed and discarded at the usual feeding interval.

For Ovex, it says that it shouldn't be taken by breastfeeding mothers as it is unknown if it is excreted in breast milk.

I think the current thought is that medication is not always the best course. Hygiene, as in washing hands thoroughly, scrubbing under nails, not touching bottom and keeping fingers out of mouth will break the cycle very quickly and will eradicate them. Along with washing sheets, toys etc.

For an adult that shouldn't be an issue so you should be fine, but obviously trickier with small children. Having said that, my doctor did not prescribe for my 2 yr old (at the time) and we got rid via hygiene too.

Clove of garlic, coat in vaseline, insert into anus. Nature's antibiotic, job done Smile

Dolly that makes me think of raised eyebrows at A&E...

On the plus side.... parasitic infections are apparently really important for the development of a normally functioning immune system and protection against autoimmune diseases and allergies. But ugh for you.

madmomma · 27/08/2012 08:40

Oh God I've had an itchy bum for weeks now and not thought anything of it. How does one tell if it's worms rather than ye olde piles ??
