I am prone to being anaemic with underactive thyroid. So predictably they are young my dose to 225mg from 200mg of thyroxine. I have been up as high as 300mg in pg, so although this does appear high dose it's pretty usual for me. Although my haemoglobin is within normal range my ferettin is very low, only 13. So although I already take floradix I'm back on the iron 3 times a day. Although trying a new one so perhaps that will be better. Also after 12 years of pain I asked for a referral for my heamoroids! After s good inspection dr agreed it was time they went. So Im wishing I got brave 12 years ago and then I wouldn't have had such trouble with the iron tablets.

Feeling relieved but tired. It's such a flaming battle. I know about taking vit c with iron so it's more easily absorbed but was reading about vit e yesterday.

I need to feel well soon. Everything feels like it's tumbling down and if I can get fit quicker it would be a massive advantage. Currently I am bf although considering dropping that in the next month.

Help?

My very elderly mum takes "gentle iron " www.amazon.co.uk/Solgar-Gentle-Iron-Bisglycinate-Vegicaps/dp/B0001OP028/ref=sr_1_1?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1345542053&sr=1-1
which doesn't upset her stomach and just about keeps her head above water anemia wise .

Don't drink tea within an hour of taking it as apparently the tannin binds with the iron bit and makes the molecules ( or whatever they are ) too big to absorb .

And I think milk products affect absorption as well .

That's ginger. Smile I'm already on a gentle iron and it's not potent enough unfortunately! There's only so much broccoli a girl can eat!!!

I'm going to find the tea thing hard! Sad but I agree that does help too

I think the gentle iron is a low dose ,maybe you could double it ...?

Thanks ginger I'm not sure there's any escaping the prescribed iron tablets as I've been trying to manage it naturally for so long, to no avail. It helps but just not enough. When I feel well my ferettin level is about 120. So it's got a long way to go and I'm in real need to get better quickly, I'm a mum of 5 and a step mum of 5 Wink also work full time. Rest is not really an option. I was more thinking of the specific supplementary vits that might help.

Good lord mrsmop I'm exhausted just reading that sentence !

Definitely you need major iron .
I wonder if a consult with a nutrionist would help - you must have some quite specific needs .

Good luck .

Hi ginger yes it can make me feel faint just thinking about them sometimes Grin I think you might be right about a consult. I really need someone to understand the whole picture of my health Confused I'm sure I will feel better it's just how long it might take I'm quite anxious about Hmm
