Help - advice on constipation

Help - my 4 1/2 month old son has been constipated for the last 5 days. he usually produces 1 dirty nappy per day but has now stopped. he is breastfed and i haven't eaten anything unusual for the last few days. he has been teething and putting fingers, bibs, toys etc. in his mouth. could this be a factor? does anyone know of a product which could be given safely? he has now started to throw up most of his feeds. i am not sure if this is due to the constipation or something else. he seems generally uncomfortable.

my dd had constipation several times, we were told to give freshly squeezed orange juice in water to her. One tespoon of juice per ounce of water. but i'd go along to docs tom if in pain with it.

could you try eating something like grapes, prunes, etc. then he might want to go soon after he's had a feed from you. massaging his stomach might help. my dd started to only go in the bath when she was about that age and got constipated. dd started lactulose when she was 6 months old. somebody once told me to give a cool boiled water and sugar to help but i never tried this.

If he'll take from a bottle/beaker try prune juice, worked for my DS. Have to dilute. Sunkist do bottles of it sugar free and nothing else added

breast fed babies can go for a week to 10 days without poohing because breast milk is so easily digested there is very little waste. It realy is virtually impossible for a purely breastfed baby to get constipated! (steps back to let someone correct her?)

DD2 was breastfed and her record was 14 days at that age. Don't worry, he will manage it, but be prepared for an explosion!
