i hope this is the right topic to post in. a friend has been diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas. it is too big to operate. he doesnt know yet if he will have chemotherapy. he has lost a huge amount of weight and i want to do something practical to help him build some strength up. i know he needs high protein meals and easily digested foods. fish pie was my first thought but does anyone have any suggestions for other good meals?

He needs to have whatever he fancies, as high calorie as possible. If that means 7 little desserts a day, then thats great. Things like macaroni cheese (make the bechamel with full fat milk and some cream plus plenty of cheese), rissoto (again, loads of cream and cheese plus chicken), lasagna (enrich bechamel with egg yolks). Also, you can make up smoothie bags of icecream (the sort made with real cream), frozen berries, cream sticks (freeze cream in ice cube bags), banana and honey so they can just be dumped in a blender with full fat milk to make a v nutrient dense shake with minimal effort

excellent, thank you. by the way do you think there is any problem using alcohol in the cooking as presumably it is cooked off if you see what i mean?

Unless he has been told specifically no alcohol, no reason at all.
